The Role

Duplo is a Lagos-based fintech startup that enables businesses in Africa to automate their spend management, simplify cross-border payments, and control business finances all on one platform.

We want to make B2B payments as simple as P2P payment apps. Most business payments in Africa are made offline….yikes. We are on a mission to transform this. We are backed by top investors including Point Nine, Tribe Capital, Commerce Ventures, Liquid2 Ventures, Basecamp Fund, Soma Capital, YCombinator, Oui Capital, and others.

This is a unique opportunity. You'll have the responsibility and resources to take a significant part in the creation of a paradigm-changing product that will impact millions.

The Senior Product Manager owns the end-to-end lifecycle of complex payment products, with a strong focus on card acquiring (Visa & Mastercard), collections, and cross-border payment platforms. This role operates as the Product Manager of the Payments Value Stream, responsible for strategy, execution, compliance alignment, and commercial impact across Nigeria, Africa, and international markets.

The Senior Product Manager is expected to balance deep functional expertise with macro-level strategy, delivering world-class, scalable, and compliant payment solutions.

Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Define and own the payments product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap aligned with company growth and global expansion goals.
  • Act as the Payments Value Stream owner, accountable for outcomes across acquiring, collections, settlement, and integrations.

Payments & Domain Leadership

  • Lead Card Acquiring products across Visa and Mastercard, including authorization flows, settlement, chargebacks, and compliance.
  • Own collections and disbursement workflows across local and international payment methods.
  • Design and optimize payment orchestration, routing, and failover strategies.
  • Ensure products meet Nigerian, African, and international payment ecosystem requirements, including local schemes, banks, and processors.
  • Partner closely with Compliance and Risk teams to embed PCI-DSS, KYC, AML, and regulatory controls into product flows.

Discovery & Customer Obsession

  • Lead deep discovery: customer interviews, merchant insights, market analysis, and competitive benchmarking (local & global).
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Nigerian fintech landscape, while benchmarking against global best-in-class payment platforms.
  • Translate customer pain points into clear, prioritized product bets that improve activation, reliability, and scale.

Delivery & Execution Excellence

  • Translate business and customer needs into PRDs, user stories, API contracts, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with engineering on solution design, sprint planning, and technical trade-offs.
  • Be micro-involved in payment flows, edge cases, error handling, reconciliation, and performance metrics.
  • Own backlog prioritization to ensure focus on customer impact, revenue, and risk reduction.
  • Drive user acceptance testing, release readiness, and post-launch iterations.

Integrations & Ecosystem

  • Lead ERP and accounting system integrations to automate reconciliation, reporting, and financial workflows.
  • Collaborate with Platform teams to ensure all payment capabilities are API-first and scalable.
  • Support white-label, PaaS, and partner integrations as part of global expansion.

Go-To-Market & Commercial Ownership

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, and Growth teams to define positioning, pricing implications, and launch plans.
  • Act as a commercially aware PM, understanding revenue drivers, transaction economics, and margin impact.
  • Support sales enablement with product narratives, demos, and customer-facing insights.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6-8 years of Product Management experience, with deep focus on payments or fintech platforms.
  • Hands-on experience delivering Card Acquiring products with Visa & Mastercard.
  • Strong understanding of collections, settlements, FX, and cross-border payments.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Nigerian and African payments ecosystem, with exposure to international markets.
  • Experience integrating with ERP and accounting systems.
  • Proven track record of scaling customer-facing financial products.
  • Strong payments domain expertise (acquiring, routing, reconciliation, settlement).
  • Excellent analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • High ownership mindset.
  • Comfort working in regulated, high-risk environments.
