OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks a product manager to join its Financial Operations Technology team and assist with the development and implementation of systems and processes. This team manages the technology that streamlines the finance and operational support functions, primarily focused on asset servicing and trade account operations, as well as tax, treasury, and compliance processes. The role offers the opportunity to be part of an inclusive, dynamic, and engaging working environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
You’ll work closely with business users, software developers, and quality engineers to conceptualize and develop solutions that improve our security master, trade booking, accounting, treasury, tax, compliance, and management reporting processes. You’ll be responsible for understanding business needs, specifying technical requirements, prioritizing product roadmaps, and supporting existing applications. You’ll have ample opportunities to partner closely with global leaders on our information technology and Finance and Operations teams.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
• A bachelor's degree or higher, along with at least seven years of relevant work experience, is required.
• Experience with investment management is a significant plus.
• A willingness to take initiative and dive into details is critical, as is the ability to manage projects to completion.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an aptitude for translating the needs of non-technical systems users into technical requirements, and the judgment to exercise a high level of discretion with confidential information are also essential.
• Applicants with a knack for solving open-ended problems and seeing how small details interrelate to impact the bigger picture (i.e., systems thinking) will excel in this role.
• The expected annual base salary for this position is $175,000 to $225,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.

What We Do
The D. E. Shaw group is trusted by investors across the world to manage their assets by seeking the optimal balance of risk and reward. While we’re known as a pioneer in quantitative investing, we also have considerable expertise in areas that involve fundamental analysis or portfolio manager discretion. We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative tools to uncover independent, hard-to-find sources of return across global public and private markets. Founded in 1988 over a small bookstore in downtown New York City, the D. E. Shaw group began with six employees and $28 million in capital and quickly became a pioneer in computational finance. In the early days of exposed pipes and extension cords, tripping on a cable could take out our whole trading system. Today, the firm has more than 2,500 people around the globe and an institutional-grade (and trip-proof) infrastructure, but we still value creativity, entrepreneurship, and the spirit of discovery. If you’re an intellectually adventurous person who loves to collaborate on challenging and rewarding projects, we encourage you to apply.
