Job Description:

The Cloud team is one of Alation's most strategically critical — and this role sits at the center of it. As a Senior Product Manager II on Cloud, you'll own investment decisions that determine how enterprise customers adopt, trust, and migrate to our platform. From evaluating containerization architecture to prioritizing auth and security requirements from large enterprises, you'll shape the foundational capabilities that unlock Alation's next phase of growth.

We're looking for a product manager who solves the hardest problem in front of them, then picks up the next one. This role will evolve as the business does. We want someone energized by that, not unsettled.

You'll define what matters, get to the real 'why' behind customer and stakeholder asks, and drive clarity across engineering, sales, and executive audiences. You'll also be expected to use AI tools to work faster and think sharper — it's not optional, it's how we operate.

This is a hybrid role: 2 days per week in our Redwood City, CA office. Local candidates only; no relocation at this time.

What You'll Own

Cloud Product Strategy & Investment Decisions

  • Evaluate and prioritize product investments in containerization, cloud connectivity, and platform infrastructure — making the call, aligning the team, and owning the outcome.

  • Define a clear roadmap that balances near-term unblocking with long-term platform durability.

  • Identify new problem spaces before they become blockers — surface opportunities from customer signals, engineering feedback, and market trends.

Enterprise Auth & Security Requirements

  • Own the authentication experience, data security, and compliance requirements for our largest enterprise customers — translating complex needs into clearly scoped, deliverable milestones.

  • Get to the real 'why' behind enterprise asks like 'no data may leave our servers' — validate blockers, challenge assumptions, and secure commitments before engineering invests.

  • Produce customer-facing security documents, architecture diagrams, and service definitions that unblock deals and accelerate enterprise security reviews.

  • Contribute to understanding and implementation of security and compliance frameworks such as iSO*, SOC II and FedRAMP.

Cross-Functional Execution

  • Partner with engineering, security, product marketing, sales, and deployment strategists to drive alignment — not just coordination.

  • Communicate complexity simply

  • Use AI tools to accelerate your work — drafting requirements, synthesizing customer feedback, exploring trade-offs, building prototypes.

What You've Done

We're looking for someone who has done hard things and taken the decisions needed to make it happen. Specifically:

  • 5+ years of product management experience, ideally with technical platforms, APIs, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, or security-sensitive products.

  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM), data security, or compliance-heavy enterprise features.

  • Hands-on familiarity with cloud infrastructure: containers, Kubernetes, networking, observability, and hybrid cloud deployment patterns.

  • Experience navigating tough enterprise conversations around security, data residency, and compliance — and turning vague requirements into actionable plans.

  • The ability to make complex systems understandable to non-technical audiences: executives, sellers, customers.

We'd Love to Hear About

  • A time you pushed back on a customer or stakeholder, uncovered the real need, and changed the plan for the better.

  • How you've used AI tools to move faster or think more clearly in your current role.

  • A moment when you had to pivot to a completely new problem space and thrived — not just survived.
