Responsible for leading complex product development initiatives, serving as a technical expert and mentor to junior engineers. Drives innovation, ensuring adherence to compliance standards, and managing critical phases of the product lifecycle, including PRD development, protocol validation, and PPAP approval. Partners with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges, optimize processes, and contribute to strategic decisions that shape product performance and market competitiveness.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Own PRD development and protocol validation for assigned products.
Lead pre-purchase testing and PPAP approval processes; resolve CAPAs.
Lead engineering projects including PRD development and protocol validation testing.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and failure analysis studies.
Provide technical guidance and mentor team members; review work for accuracy.
Interface with suppliers and service providers to ensure compliance and quality.
Contribute to technology roadmaps and strategic product decisions.
Conduct advanced financial and value-based analyses; communicate findings to leadership.
Resolve complex product performance concerns and oversee corrective actions.
Nature and Scope
Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.
Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to the expected results. Determines and develops an approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees' professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.
Work Environment
Typically located in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness, such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes.
Most of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking and/or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
Travel required 10-15% of the time.
Education and Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally, 5-8 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience owning or leading private brand / store brand SKUs for a major home‑center retailer.
- Experience working inside the retailer organization or serving as the embedded private‑brand owner with decision‑making authority (not a supplier‑only or sales‑support interface).
- Clear responsibility for the end‑to‑end private brand lifecycle, including product/spec development, supplier selection, testing and validation, launch, and in‑market performance.
- Strong product engineering foundation (materials, manufacturing processes, testing, quality, and compliance).
- Demonstrated experience operating within large‑retailer commercialization, quality, and compliance processes.
This is a hybrid position. Eligible candidates residing in the greater Atlanta area will be asked to work two days a week in our Doraville, GA Field Support Center. If in Miamisburg, OH, the work schedule is five days on-site.
