As a Senior Product Developer, you lead a team of Product Developers who partner to support the rollout of highly technical and complex footwear products from design phase (concept) through to production readiness. Using your technical development expertise, you collaborate with Product Creation, Design, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to deliver beautiful products that inspire the core mountain athlete to reach new levels of performance.Your innovative and solutions-focused approach to development ensures that each product you work on meets Arc’teryx design intent and brand integrity requirements.

This role is based out of our Portland office and is expected to be performed on-location.

If you were a Senior Product Developer now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Leading, training, supporting and mentoring the Product Developers throughout the execution and development of our highly technical and complex footwear products, from design phase and intent through to production readiness, to ensure product reaches commercialization on-time 
  • Leading and influencing the development process to achieve commercial viability of designs through partnership and collaboration with Product Design, Materials Development, Costing, Product Testing, Commercialization, Production and Quality teams 
  • Partnering and collaborating with Design, Development, Advanced Concepts, Materials and offshore counterparts to ensure concepts and prototypes, counter-sample and production finished goods meet established fit, quality and construction standards going into pre-production 
  • Compiling all product materials/construction information and maintaining an accurate database and documentation of BOM information and technical specifications 
  • Contributing to efficient raw material sourcing and purchasing and accurately produced finished product 
  • Executing to calendar deliverables, including but not limited to concept sample and prototype development, material validation, estimated costing, initial quality evaluation and approval requirements with key stakeholders 
  • Ensuring accurate cost estimates and price targets are achievable to meet and/or exceed target FOB 
  • Contributing to the creation and evolution of construction standards in conjunction with industry standards, internal performance requirements and proven/tested athlete validation 
  • Working in conjunction with the Product Merchandising, Design, and Brand teams to ensure all external product communication accurately reflects model requirements and specifications 
  • Communicating opportunities for process improvement with a lean forward attitude to drive evolution within our Product Creation process 
  • Liaising with cross-functional departments to provide Development support as needed, facilitating cross-departmental problem solving

Are you our next Senior Product Developer?

  • You have10+ years’ experience in product development (developing product/process) with a focus on technical, innovative footwear and 2+ year's leading a team 
  • You have an Undergraduate Degree OR equivalent industry training, certification, or related business experience 
  • You have experience effectively communicating with, and traveling to domestic and offshore vendors and manufacturers 
  • You have valued input to product costing 
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of design intent, product aesthetics, construction, production and fit 
  • You have a complete understanding of the product lifecycle process - from ideation to consumer 
  • You have an extensive knowledge of raw materials, technical construction, and sourcing 
  • You are detailed and accuracy oriented with strong organizational skills 
  • You demonstrate initiative, agility and commitment 
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions 
  • You are goal driven with a results-oriented attitude 
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
