HackerRank helps companies like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft hire and upskill the next generation of developers based on skills, not pedigree. Our platform is trusted by over 2,500 of the world’s most innovative companies to build strong engineering teams ready for what’s next.
Software has entered an era where humans and AI build side by side. As this shift accelerates, the definition of strong technical talent is changing. We give companies better ways to identify and invest in next-generation skills.
People at HackerRank care deeply about the impact of their work and sweat the small details so our customers can be wildly successful with products they genuinely love to use. We move with urgency and believe great outcomes come from high standards.
As a Senior Product Designer on the Pair team, you'll help design how people collaborate and communicate during a live technical interview. You'll identify problems worth solving and design innovative, high-quality solutions that resonate with users, partnering closely with product managers and engineers through interaction and visual design.
At HackerRank, we believe the future is human plus AI. This role sits at the heart of that belief: you'll design next-gen interviewing experiences where developers showcase their skills in an AI-first world, and you'll build those designs the same way, working alongside AI agents every day.
What you will do- Design and ship features that balance proven UI paradigms with new AI-powered interaction patterns.
- Translate design intent (layout, hierarchy, motion, interaction states, edge cases) into instructions an agent can build from, knowing when to show rather than tell.
- Iterate in tight loops: reviewing agent output critically, diagnosing why something feels off, and steering the next iteration instead of starting over.
- Build taste into the system by encoding visual and interaction standards into reusable prompts, components, and guidelines so quality compounds across the team.
- Pressure-test your ideas and refine through collaboration and research.
- Partner with engineering, product management, and design peers on both long-term strategy and short-term execution.
- Care about the full user journey: from the moment a candidate receives an invite through the interviewer's final read-out.
- Manage competing priorities and act decisively in the face of ambiguity.
- Contribute to design and product culture at HackerRank, including how the team uses agents to raise the bar.
- 5+ years of hands-on industry experience as a product designer, with at least 3 years on fast-moving enterprise or consumer products.
- Demonstrated, hands-on fluency with agentic coding tools: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar. You can show real work you've built by directing agents, work that you or others actually used, and explain the prompting and iteration decisions behind it.
- A portfolio demonstrating excellent visual, UI, and interaction design, ideally including interactive or in-code work, not just static screens.
- Comfort with ambiguity, working independently or across many stakeholders, and balancing established design standards with new paradigms.
- Proven ability to ship high-quality products in a self-directed manner.
- Experience designing live, real-time, or high-stakes collaborative experiences.
- The ability to build front-end and work directly in code yourself, not just direct agents.
- Experience adopting new tools fast and staying ahead of a monthly-changing agent landscape, treating that change as an advantage.
- Experience creating design systems, components, or guidelines that other designers and engineers build against.
- Designing through agents is already your daily workflow, not an experiment you're running.
- You think in working software. You'd rather hand engineering a functioning prototype than a redlined mock, and you know how that changes the conversation.
- You know what quality looks like and how to get agents to produce it; you catch the 10% an agent gets wrong and know exactly how to steer the fix.
- You've seen how a small micro-interaction or personalized moment drives engagement, and you sweat those details.
- You care about live, high-stakes experiences: an interview is a stressful, real-time moment for candidates and interviewers alike, and designing calm into it excites you.
- You aren't shy about sharing what you learn and helping lift the bar for everyone.
