Do work that matters
At CommBank, we’re transforming banking to enhance the financial health of our customers and communities. In the role of Senior Product Designer, you’ll be instrumental in crafting seamless, accessible, and impactful digital/staff experiences for millions of Australians every day.

This is a hands-on product design role, embedded in a cross-functional squad. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deeply understand customer and business problems, explore opportunities, and deliver outcomes that improve customer experiences and commercial performance.

You’ll lead design from early discovery through to delivery, balancing strategic thinking with practical execution.

Reporting to the Experience Chapter Lead, you’ll be part of the Business Banking Design Chapter, a supportive design community where 40+ designers share craft, insight, and expertise.

This role suits someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys shaping direction, and is motivated by seeing their work make a measurable impact.

You’ll thrive here if you’re energised by complex products and systems, enjoy tackling tough challenges and can thoughtfully influence and challenge stakeholders to reach the best outcomes our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design, from problem discovery through to high-quality delivery.
  • Inform team strategy, priorities, and roadmap decisions through insights-led thinking.
  • Rapidly uncover problems, explore opportunities, and iterate toward validated, high-quality solutions.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to frame problems, define outcomes, and deliver measurable impact.
  • Plan and facilitate user research, testing, and insight synthesis to uncover needs and validate design direction.
  • Translate complex business, user, and system requirements into clear, intuitive experiences.
  • Drive collaboration across Product, Engineering, Content, Accessibility, and Legal/Risk for clarity and alignment.
  • Use and evolve the design system to deliver consistent, scalable, and accessible experiences.
  • Collaborate with Engineering using AI-enabled tooling to accelerate exploration, prototyping, and delivery.
  • Facilitate and participate in design critiques, workshops, and agile ceremonies, providing and receiving actionable feedback according to our design standards to continuously improve outcomes.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience designing digital/staff products end-to-end in cross-functional product teams.
  • Proven ability to lead discovery and delivery activities with customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply and execute them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • Excellent interaction and UI design skills, with an eye for detail and craft.
  • Experience designing for complex systems, services, or platforms, not just isolated features.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills — you’re as comfortable sketching ideas on a whiteboard with engineers as you are presenting strategic concepts to executives.
  • Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and a basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, components, design tokens).
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity, balancing customer needs with business goals.
  • Experience with metrics-driven product development (e.g., running experiments, A/B testing, usage funnels data).
  • A portfolio that showcases end-to-end product design thinking, craft, and measurable impact.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in Financial Service, or another industry that combines physical and digital services
  • Exposure to design systems management and contribution.
  • Passion for mentoring others and uplifting the broader design craft in the organisation.

Why Join Us

  • You’ll work on products that genuinely impact people’s lives.
  • You’ll be part of a highly collaborative, customer-first culture.
  • You’ll have ownership and autonomy to shape the product as a key member of a cross-functional team.

If this role sounds like the next move for you, please apply with a CV and a portfolio that showcases your end-to-end product design process, craft, outcomes, and measurable impact, including any contributions cross team design alignment.
