Job Description: 

Amplify’s creative team is a group of designers, artists, and storytellers. We sketch, we write, we push pixels, we also love paper. We live for the big ideas, and we sweat the details. We work on digital, print, environmental, interactive, and animation projects. We have a strong hands-on and highly collaborative approach to both product development and graphic design systems and ensure ideas are realized to the highest standards of execution.

Senior Product Design Managers at Amplify create functional and meaningful experiences that delight our young learners and their teachers, inside and outside of the classroom. As a member of Amplify’s design group, you will partner with a diverse cross-functional product team of designers, product owners, developers, and curriculum experts, to set the vision for our digital curriculum and help bring the product from inception to market. 


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead design discovery and definition for the digital teacher and student experience.

  • Be the primary design collaborator point of contact with cross functional stakeholders from Design, Product, Content, and Platform

  • Drive design review and iteration by organizing regular touchpoints with cross functional stakeholders for input and feedback on work in progress

  • Lead a product design team to develop a cohesive look and feel across digital components that align with other products wherever possible

  • Lead the development of a high-performing UX design team by recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding top talent, shaping a collaborative and innovative design culture from the ground up

  • Supervise 2–3 design managers, who will lead the design team in production

  • Construct and manage schedules for design deliverables

  • Actively participate in weekly design sprints, team meetings, and user testing

  • Lead the design team to ensure the delivery of a high quality user experience that meets business goals

  • Create sketches, wireframes, prototypes, user journeys, personas, and stakeholder presentations summarizing concepts and progress

  • Be an advocate for inclusive practices both on the team and in the product itself.

  • Oversee, influence, and optimize user research processes putting a premium on listening to users, both teachers and students, and letting their users guide us to the best solutions

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor or advanced degree

  • 7+ years experience with end-to-end product design

  • 3+ years of managerial experience

  • Effective storyteller, strong visual design and typographic sensibility 

  • Interaction design expertise and experience collaborating with engineers

  • Working experience on a product team from product concept through launch.

  • Problem-solving and design skills to drive compelling user experiences and interfaces

  • Deep understanding of how qualitative research and data inform product and design decisions

  • Strong presentation and communication skills with experience leading workshops and presenting ideas to executives

  • Familiarity with agile methods and team constructs, and understands the product manager role within projects.

  • Ability to influence, negotiate and coordinate across multiple groups and disciplines

  • Understanding of how to apply the methodologies of human-centered design and research

  • Expertise with Adobe CC, Sketch, InVision, Zeplin

  • Experience with Agile processes

  • Experience designing desktop and mobile experiences

  • Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and evolving large-scale design systems, or patterns with a desire to produce the best digital design in the industry

  • Experience with digital product design in education technology or a related field

  • Enthusiasm for contributing to the landscape of literacy education

  • Experience designing with Accessibility as a priority

  • Demonstrated ability to work iteratively with customers to gather and document user experience requirements

  • A formal education in Interaction Design, Communication Design, User Experience or related field

  • Experience with interactive motion design or game development

  • Any lived experience with teaching or tutoring students ages K-12

  • Knowledge and/or love of science as a subject

What we offer:
Salary is only one component of the Amplify Total Rewards package, which includes a 401(k) plan, competitive health insurance and mental health options, basic life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and access to best-in-class development programs. The gross annualized salary range for this role is $120,000 - $135,000. This role is eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus that rewards individual and company performance.
