Job Description:

Position Purpose
The General Indirect Procurement Category Manager will spearhead the sourcing and procurement strategy across a diverse array of categories, including IT, Telecoms, digital media solutions, Fundraising, Recruitment, Fleet, Training and Travel, food, and publishing. This role entails overseeing a Category Specialist and serving as the central hub of procurement excellence, offering comprehensive market expertise to guide and assist senior stakeholders across various business functions within the category.

The primary responsibilities include developing and implementing category plans aligned with The Salvation Army's objectives, ensuring optimal value realization while effectively managing procurement risks. The incumbent will leverage their strategic insights to optimize procurement processes and drive efficiencies across the category portfolio.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead end-to-end strategic procurement initiatives across the assigned portfolio, aligning activities with organizational goals.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, building strong relationships and driving stakeholder engagement.
  • Deliver the Procurement Strategy by implementing policies, procedures, and savings initiatives in partnership with Procurement leadership.
  • Conduct market intelligence and supplier analysis to identify best-value opportunities and inform sourcing strategies.
  • Manage sourcing lifecycle activities, including strategy development, tendering, negotiation, and contract implementation.
  • Drive measurable cost savings and value creation through proactive supplier optimization and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Oversee supplier and contract management, ensuring performance, compliance, and issue resolution throughout the procurement cycle.
  • Maintain contract databases and risk registers, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Promote ethical sourcing practices and safeguard the organization from contractual, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Lead and support cross-functional project teams, providing strategic sourcing guidance and influencing effective spend management decisions.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting; finance/accounting diploma considered an asset.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) or equivalent designation preferred.
  • 3–5 years of category management experience, ideally within the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrate expertise managing complex, high-spend, high-risk procurement categories, including GDPR considerations in third-party software contracting.
  • Lead sourcing activities with proven experience running RFPs, drafting contracts, and delivering measurable savings and KPI targets.
  • Build and manage strong supplier relationships while resolving issues effectively and driving performance improvements.
  • Apply strong project management capabilities to plan, execute, and deliver procurement initiatives successfully.
  • Utilize advanced analytical, financial, and commercial acumen to inform decision-making and optimize outcomes.
  • Communicate and influence effectively across diverse stakeholder groups, delivering high-quality reports and insights.
  • Leverage strong organizational, ethical, and risk management skills while using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and database tools to manage multiple priorities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $61,461.40 to $76,822.20 with a maximum of $92,201.20.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

Skills Required
