A Day in the LifeIn this exciting role as a Senior Principal Enterprise Software Architect, you will apply technical expertise using state-of-the-art software engineering technology to solve highly complex technical problems for our image guided surgery and robotics portfolio of products.
In this role as Senior Principal Software Architect, you are responsible for development of the reference architecture and strategy for implementation of solutions, as well as architectural governance and technical oversight over the software implementation.
As an experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, guide and mentor other engineers, participate in technical reviews, select the most promising concepts, implement advances in current state-of-the-art software technology, and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.
As a technical software leader, you will work closely with software development teams and cross-functional teams in an Agile environment (Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework). You will guide the design and development of software solutions at the architectural level, prepare formal design documentation, and educate stakeholders regarding solutions.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop software reference architecture, system and platform roadmaps, detailed technical solutions, and overall strategy of software solution implementation in native, web, and cloud applications.
  • Promote, guide, and govern adherence to good architectural practices and application of a well-defined reference architecture to deliver highest-quality software solutions.
  • Partner with the development teams to create concrete software architecture and design for the software-based medical device products.
  • Collaborate with development teams to support optimization of software application architectures for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Engage in PI planning and Scrum meetings, stand ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives meetings as required.
  • Participate in requirements gathering, planning, and estimation efforts.
  • Interface with mechanical, electrical, systems, and test engineers as well as quality assurance and regulatory compliance teams.
  • Participate in and recommend on-going professional development activities.
  • Identify and implement process improvements often of a complex nature.
  • Regularly educate the development and test teams about Medical Devices Regulatory Standards, IEC62304, ISO 13485(QMS)
  • Effectively contributes to development teams.
  • Lead the integration of complex software systems on the Ubuntu platform.
  • Optimize existing algorithms and develop new techniques for real-time image analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless implementation of React and React JS in our projects.
  • Manage the deployment of CUDA libraries to enhance computational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior architects and developers, providing guidance and support.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in technology and incorporate them into our practices.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in computer science/Electronics or equivalent with 17+ years of experience in Software Industry.
  • Master’s in computer science/Electronics or equivalent with 15+ years of experience in Software Industry.
  • Strong programming Skills in C, C++ and/or C#
  • Strong knowledge of modern, full-stack software design, development, debug, and test practices.
  • Experience with large-scale software application design.
  • Proven expertise with API design and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience working as a technical team leader or Solutions Architect.
  • Expertise in image processing techniques and algorithms.
  • Strong experience with front-end technologies, specifically React and React JS.
  • Experience working with Service-oriented Architecture (SOA), Micro-services, and Event-driven Architecture.
  • Proficiency in handling CUDA libraries and GPU-accelerated computing.
  • Experience with OpenGL, image processing algorithms, and communication protocols (CAN, RS232, TCP-IP, USB)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Software development experience in the medical industry or other regulated industry is desirable.
  • Experience leading software-specific project planning and estimation efforts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an Agile software development workflow.
  • Engineering practice experience such as code refactoring, design patterns, design-driven development, continuous integration, building highly scalable applications, application security
  • Knowledge of DevOps CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, CodeDeploy, CircleCI, Jenkins/Travis etc.)

Principal Working Relationships

  • Reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager
  • Frequent interaction with team members from other disciplines, particularly embedded and application development engineers, to develop project requirements and other project artifacts such as project schedules. 
  • Possible interaction with GBU technical leaders, technical clinicians, third-party vendors, manufacturers, subcontractors and other users.
