Zalando is seeking a dynamic and experienced product professional to join as Senior Principal Product Manager, Content Experiences. The Content Experiences team is responsible for building remarkable consumer-facing features and marketable experiences to support Zalando’s vision of being the starting point for fashion and lifestyle. The Senior Principal Product Manager, Content Experiences role will be part of the broader mission to build intelligent foundational services and imaginative products that both enable partners and drive further interest and loyalty with customers. The role will operate in a collaborative environment with Design, Engineering, and company-wide stakeholders, balancing the inputs and needs of many. 

THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Principal Product Manager to lead the development and optimisation of our video customer experience across multiple customer journey touch-points independently of its source. This role is essential for transforming our current fragmented video content experience solutions into a unified, high-quality product that delivers consistent user experiences. This will include multiple variations on video including shorts, Livestream, etc. In addition to the customer-facing product, this role will be responsible for many of the underlying services as well, including any future automation of content enrichment, and/or automated caption-ing, and possibly establishing relationships between the videos to allow for a continuous playback experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the digital media or content enriched e-commerce, and a passion for creating seamless and engaging user experiences.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING):

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy for the video experience that aligns with the company’s overall vision and goals.

  • Requirement Gathering: Identify and consolidate shared requirements across various customer journey touch-points. This role will need strong stakeholder management skill sets to drive significant collaboration with stakeholders from different departments.

  • Product Development: Lead the transition from the current fragmented state to a unified video experience, ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience across all platforms. Create an environment where videos in the content pool can be repurposed and reused across different experiences. Work in collaboration with the Media Platform team and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a high-performing, scalable infrastructure.

  • Configurable Interactions: Design and implement a configurable set of interactions and feedback mechanisms that can be layered onto the video player.

  • Accessibility and Localisation: Standardise and automate closed captions and localisation support to ensure inclusivity and compliance with international standards.

  • Discovery Features: Incorporate features like thumbnails, teaser trailers, and other entry-point elements to enhance user discoverability and engagement. Implement video SEO strategies to enhance the discoverability and engagement of video content.

  • Data Management: Establish a single source of truth for video engagement metrics, including time spent and high-value action-taking data.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF:

  • Product methods & tools: you have a strong track record of envisioning, developing and building successful platform and capability products, ideally in an online service marketplace or e-commerce environment. You are able to contribute to and explain a product strategy, driving the product vision forward across multiple product teams.

  • Customer mindset: you have the ability to understand customer needs and turn them into remarkable products. You are experienced in conducting insights with user research and product discovery to provide the voice of the customer. Domain knowledge of UX and UI design best practices for video interfaces and interactive elements, a plus.

  • Multiple domains: you have experience in working closely with cross functional teams in Design, Engineering, and Data Science.

  • Data Quality & Big Data: you have experience in handling big data and ensuring top data quality. 

  • Platform Services & Multi Partner Solutions: You have built/managed successful platforms and established multi partner solutions in various business domains. 

  • Technical Acumen: Comfortable with technology and able to engage in detailed discussions with engineering teams. Technical proficiency with video formats, transcoding, etc a plus. Experience with video analytic frameworks, including the measurement of technical performance. Experience with the technical integration of video platforms with other systems (e.g. CRMs, marketing platforms).
