Job Description SummaryThis is an exciting role within the System Technology and Adaptive Intelligence (STAI) team in Gas Power Engineering (GPE), who’s organizational vision is to create “An artificial-intelligence-enhanced electric power & CO2 focused innovation team that supports and incubates new ventures and ideas through diligent engineering to provide cleaner, more flexible power to the world,” and we are looking for dynamic systems design engineers to help us achieve this vision, focusing on our team that brings Gas Power products from conceptual design to new product introduction.

The Senior Principal Engineer – Emerging Technology is a senior technical leader and subject matter expert, responsible for setting strategic direction, shaping organizational technical vision, and driving innovation across multiple projects and domains. This role will focus primarily on advanced components and sciences and is responsible for driving engineering excellence, supporting highly complex projects, and mentoring next generation engineers. The Senior Principal Engineer collaborates across the multi-disciplinary Engineering team to own & lead risk management while fostering innovative solutions to meet business and customer solutions. This role requires access to US Export Controlled information.

Job DescriptionEssential Functions:
  • Serve as a senior technical authority across Conceptual Design for Gas Power traditional and non-traditional products, defining and enforcing technical standards, guiding key design decisions, and making final determinations on technical tradeoffs and risk acceptance.
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.  Develop next generation product cost, performance and operability design tools and methods with emphasis to deploy Adaptive Intelligence methods for robust solutions and design productivity.  As needed, provide working team leadership on larger projects.
  • Provide technical leadership on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field support.  Champion adoption of the latest engineering tools technologies and drive consistent “apples-to-apples” assumptions and technical comparisons across product options to clearly show technology impact and investment opportunity.  Partner with Technical Competitive Assessment to understand market position and propose new Gas Power programs and countermeasures to address risk and improve product customer value.
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range product line and engineering productivity needs.  Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Advanced Research and other stakeholders to define and create competitive advanced product solutions for future investment.  Demonstrate a high “say-do” ratio and perform on-time and technically excellent product concept trade studies, optimization and advanced methods for the broader engineering team.  Review personal work with peers and CTH community and proactively address concerns and retire risks.
  • Provide end-to-end technical leadership for highly complex engineering projects and programs, ensuring sound architecture, technical rigor, safety, quality, and lifecycle risk closure.
  • Own critical projects and technical deliverables supporting the success of Gas Power Conceptual Design traditional and non-traditional product development.
  • Act as a primary technical resource and subject matter expert within Gas Power Conceptual Design traditional and non-traditional product development, providing guidance to project teams, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Review and approve engineering documentation, deliverables, deviations, and waivers to ensure compliance with internal requirements, external regulations, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate directly with the Performance, Plant and Systems Chief Engineers to review designs, align strategy, and provide technical direction.
  • Drive problem resolution across multiple disciplines and identify technical risks and mitigations at the system level.
  • Identify innovation opportunities by monitoring relevant technologies, regulations, competitors, and industry trends; support external engagement through conferences, academic partnerships, and technical forums.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, internal teams, and external entities to resolve the most complex technical issues and support successful project execution.
  • Leverage data and AI/ML tools to accelerate design space exploration, automate analysis, and improve defect detection and root-cause resolution.
  • Mentor and coach Principal and developing engineers to strengthen technical judgment, knowledge sharing, and engineering capability.
  • Lead the development of technical standards, best practices, design practices, and process improvements while fostering a culture of curiosity, continuous improvement, and inclusion.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • This role requires strong experience in Engineering/Technology & Services Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.  Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Demonstrated product systems design, development of advanced design and complex systems experience.
  • Minimum 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $152,400.00 and $254,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
