A day in the life
As a Senior Platform Engineer at PEXA, you will play a key leadership role within our Platform Engineering team, shaping the core infrastructure that powers our global technology ecosystem.
 
You will design and deliver scalable, resilient and secure cloud infrastructure across our AWS environments, using Infrastructure-as-Code and automation to enable consistent, high-quality delivery. You will lead the evolution of our CI and CD pipelines to improve velocity, reliability and observability across the organisation.
 
Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with software delivery squads, security, and resiliency and observability teams to enhance platform performance, security posture and developer experience. You will mentor and coach Platform Engineers and Graduates, influence architectural decisions, and contribute to engineering standards and platform roadmap direction.
 
About the role
This role is responsible for driving the design, delivery and continuous improvement of PEXA’s global platform infrastructure.
You will champion self-service capabilities that empower delivery squads, embed best practices for monitoring, alerting, backup and incident response, and lead strategic initiatives including cloud cost optimisation, architecture standardisation and technology modernisation.
 
We are looking for someone who balances strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, embraces a generative and agentic AI-first approach, and actively uplifts engineering culture across the team.
 

Key capabilities we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years’ experience in platform, site reliability, DevOps or cloud infrastructure engineering roles within complex or large-scale environments
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS including networking, compute, storage and identity services
  • Proven expertise with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Strong automation and scripting skills in Python, NodeJS or Bash
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD tooling and pipeline design using tools such as GitHub Actions or ArgoCD
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm and service meshes such as Istio
  • Proven experience working with event streaming platforms such as Kafka
  • Excellent understanding of system and application security best practices including IAM, secrets management and compliance frameworks
  • Experience operating Linux-based systems in production at scale
  • Solid knowledge and hands-on experience with generative and agentic AI tooling
  • Ability to balance strategy and execution, designing architectural patterns while remaining hands-on
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and driving improvements in engineering culture

What success looks like in the first 6–12 months:

  • Lead the delivery of scalable, secure and resilient infrastructure improvements across our AWS platform
  • Elevate CI/CD practices to improve deployment speed, reliability and platform observability
  • Drive measurable improvements in platform resiliency, automation coverage and operational efficiency
  • Establish and enhance self-service capabilities that improve developer experience across delivery squads
  • Contribute meaningfully to platform roadmap decisions and architecture standards
  • Mentor engineers and positively influence engineering capability, quality and culture
