What You Would Do in This Role

The Senior Pipeline Engineer participates in the design of different aspects of energy industry projects from inception to completion.

Duties include:

• Providing comprehensive pipeline engineering and design services by establishing design criteria and preparing specifications, design computations, drawings, models, and bills of material in accordance with basic project requirements.
• Ensuring design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements, including Vista and client specifications and standards
• Performing detailed code calculations and applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses to complex engineering tasks
• Completing and reviewing piping data in the line list
• Preparing and reviewing engineering work packages
• Preparing and reviewing manual valve and piping specialty item lists
• Preparing and reviewing valve and specialty item datasheets
• Preparing and reviewing tie-in lists
• Checking piping isometric and general arrangement drawings
• Procurement of various pipeline components
• Ensuring regulatory compliance and registration of pipelines accordingly
• Participating in design reviews and HAZOPs as required
• Providing technical guidance to junior staff
• Assigning and outlining work for others, and reviewing work for technical accuracy and adequacy
• Interfacing with client representatives
• Maintaining current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards
• Reviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements
• Exercising cost/budget control, and reviewing and monitoring designs for conformance with control estimates and project specifications
• Reviewing and maintaining project schedules, and tracking engineering tasks and deliverables in conjunction with project management
• Adhering to Vista Quality Management System (QMS)
• Preparing scope changes and estimating hours
• Actively stewarding change management as related to their scope of work
• Preparing or assisting in the preparation of discipline inputs for cost estimates for proposals
• Providing construction support
• Authenticating documentation with a professional engineering stamp as required
• Performing other duties as requested

Requirements  

• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in pipeline engineering and design in the energy industry specifically related to the SAGD pipelines.
• Strong working knowledge and understanding of CSA Z662 and ASME B31.3  and associated codes and standards as they relate for pipeline engineering.
• Thorough knowledge of SAGD pipelines, material selection, high strength materials, high temperature pipelines
• Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in engineering or applied science
• Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural & Architectural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls and Piping Engineers and Designers as well as Project Management and Procurement personnel
• Experienced in the procurement of pipeline components (RFQ, TBE, RFP, document review, etc.)
• P.Eng. registration with APEGA
• Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Self-motivated and efficient in time management
• Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits

Preferred

• Ten (10) plus years project experience in buried and above-ground oil, gas pipeline design
• Familiarity with pipeline regulatory requirements for AB, BC and SK
• Knowledge of pipeline route selection and constructability requirements
