Position Summary

The senior paralegal is a position within the Legal & Risk Department which handles a variety of projects that support the department. This position will prepare and review legal documents, complete legal research, oversee data retention guidelines, as well as prepare communications for internal and external inquiries about legal documents and contracts.

The firm has one available position in either Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Cleveland, OH; Naples, FL; Malvern, PA; St. Louis, MO; OR Toms River, NJ. Some positions at Novogradac may be open to remote or hybrid work arrangements depending on business needs.  Please discuss available options with your recruiter.

Your Contributions and Responsibilities

  • Review, revision, and drafting of legal documents for company-wide business units, including but not limited to contracts, subpoena responses and objections, NDAs, board resolutions, insurance applications and related documents and correspondence.

  • Maintain prompt communication and responses to internal and external inquiries regarding various legal documents and contracts presented to the Legal & Risk Department.

  • In accordance with company and department guidance and checklists, identify risks, provide alternatives to mitigate issues and come to favorable resolutions. Conduct negotiations with client/third party procurement departments as appropriate and within designated authority level.

  • Legal research and assistance to company attorneys as assigned.

  • Manage and direct annual company-wide engagement data retention/purging procedures as needed.

  • Perform clerical/administrative duties such as maintaining department files and trackers, scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail.

  • Maintain records of outside counsel and other legal department expense invoices, process invoices pursuant to the company’s accounts payable procedures.

  • Under supervision of attorney, manage process of responding to subpoenas and requests for documents and coordinate with outside counsel as required.

  • Provide support to Legal & Risk Department on other legal projects as assigned.

  • Organize, maintain, and update legal document templates and forms for company-wide business units including but not limited to engagement letters, standard letters, NDAs, and request forms.

  • Organize, maintain, and update legal department files systems, including NovieNet and secure drive, in a logical and systematic manner.

Your Background and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area plus a minimum of 10 years of work experience, and/or appropriate balance of education and work experience. Law degree/Paralegal certification highly preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in particular the ability to interpret complex policies and law and translate them clearly.

  • Excellent attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive work-related information.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize a fast-paced and varied workload, effectively manage a variety of concurrent and shifting priorities.

  • Strong problem solving/analysis skills.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Strong computer skills, including solid skill in the Microsoft Office suite (prefer advanced skill in Excel).

  • Accounting acumen a plus.

  • Able to work additional hours, nights and/or weekends on occasion as needed.

  • Compensation: $83,000 to $112,000 depending on experience.  More is possible if experience dictates.
