The Role: Senior OSP Engineer

As a Senior OSP Engineer at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

  • Lead the design and implementation of OSP fiber infrastructure, including fiber optic cabling, pathways, duct banks, handholes, manholes, and entrance facilities for critical facilities.

  • Supervise external engineering consultants to ensure OSP designs meet Switch and industry standards.

  • Develop and maintain OSP design standards, processes, and documentation for hyperscale data centers.

  • Develop standard campus site selection criteria and requirements

  • Develop and maintain OLTS, OTDR and power meter testing standards to ensure optical loss budgets are met.

  • Act as a subject matter expert in OSP fiber infrastructure, guiding design decisions, routing, resiliency, and infrastructure strategy.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, carriers, vendors, utilities, inspectors, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Identify and mitigate risks independently while supporting team members in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Conduct site visits for assessments, route evaluations, design reviews, consultant selection, and construction support.

  • Ensure OSP designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, permitting requirements, and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Present technical papers and design concepts to leadership, customers, and peers.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cost, speed, quality, resiliency, and consistency across data center sites.

What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; BICSI RCDD, OSP Designer, or equivalent industry certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of OSP fiber design experience, including fiber optic cabling, underground pathways, duct banks, handholes, manholes, and entrance facilities.

  • Strong understanding of OSP infrastructure used in data center and large campus environments, including diverse routing, pathway design, and carrier connectivity.

  • Previous experience with hyperscale datacenters preferred.

  • Proficient in reviewing and approving OSP fiber designs, construction drawings, submittals, and specifications.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent projects and manage external design consultants.

  • Skilled in developing and maintaining Basis of Design documentation, OSP design standards, details, and specification templates.

  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and communications system layouts during master planning.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on high standards and continuous improvement.

  • Proficient in design and project tools including Bluebeam, Excel, SmartSheet, MS Office, Revit, and AutoCAD.

  • Willingness to travel for site assessments, design reviews, and coordination with AHJs, vendors, and project stakeholders (less than 25% travel expected).
