About The Role
We are seeking individuals to join as Senior Manager, Operations Technology to lead the design, governance, and standardization of Operational Technology (OT) systems across our energy storage portfolio. This role serves as the technical lead for OT systems, ensuring consistent architecture, controls, telemetry, operational procedures, and documentation throughout the full asset lifecycle—from development and construction through commissioning and ongoing operations. The Senior Manager will work closely with Operations, Operations Engineering, IT/Security, Compliance, Asset Management, and external vendors to ensure OT systems are reliable, secure, scalable, and ready for safe, efficient operations.
While the Compliance team owns regulatory requirements, compliance programs, and audit responses, this role is responsible for OT system governance, technical control implementation, and maintaining the documentation and evidence needed to support compliance and audit readiness. The role also has owner-side approval authority for OT access and significant OT system changes, including access permissions, control and telemetry configurations, network changes, and vendor work. The Senior Manager has the authority to pause or escalate work that does not meet company standards for safety, documentation, or audit readiness.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the Operational Technology (OT) systems for the BESS fleet and Remote Operations Center (ROC), including EMS, SCADA, site controllers, telemetry, communications, and monitoring systems.
- Establish and maintain OT standards for system architecture, controls, telemetry, network design, and monitoring across the fleet.
- Partner with Development and EPC teams to incorporate OT requirements into project design, construction, and turnover deliverables.
- Define commissioning and system acceptance requirements, including FAT/SAT testing, telemetry validation, and operational readiness.
- Ensure OT systems are ready for ISO market operations by maintaining reliable controls, telemetry, communications, and coordination with the ROC.
- Support reliable 24/7 operations by developing operational procedures, managing alarms, and maintaining data quality.
- Manage OT vendors and service providers by setting expectations, approving work, tracking performance, and ensuring deliverables meet operational and compliance requirements.
- Partner with IT/Security to oversee OT cybersecurity, including system access, remote connectivity, multi-factor authentication, logging, and periodic access reviews.
- Oversee OT system changes and software releases, including patching, configuration management, testing, documentation, and rollback planning.
- Lead the response to OT system, communications, and cybersecurity incidents, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, disaster recovery planning, and coordination with Operations and HSE.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of Operational Technology experience is required, including 3+ years in renewables, energy storage, or critical infrastructure operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, or related field is required (ABET-accredited preferred). Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., GICSP/GRID, CISSP, or ISA/IEC 62443-aligned OT cybersecurity credentials/training).
- Proven ROC/24x7 support and ISO telemetry/control readiness (CAISO and ERCOT; other ISO/RTO experience a plus).
- Strong OT networking and protocol knowledge (DNP3, Modbus, ICCP where applicable).
- Owner-side leadership across the full project lifecycle (development through operations), including commissioning/turnover and acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
- Demonstrated OT cybersecurity governance experience (NIST, IEC 62443), including vendor/remote-access controls; familiarity with NERC/CIP concepts.
- Hands-on IAM and vendor remote access governance (approvals, logging, recertifications) and OT change/configuration management (patching/releases, baselines, rollback).
- Vendor and contract-performance management experience (SLAs, KPIs, escalation, corrective actions to closure).
- Strong troubleshooting and structured problem solving, including leading technical RCAs and preventing recurrence.
- Strong communication and cross-functional leadership across internal teams and vendors; able to brief leadership.
