Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Operations is an internal leadership role responsible for the day-to-day business operations of BRG's Healthcare Consulting practice. This individual will partner closely with practice leadership to drive operational excellence, financial performance, resource management, and process improvement across the practice. The Senior Manager will oversee practice forecasting, staffing and utilization, onboarding and training coordination, internal reporting, and cross-functional collaboration with BRG shared services (Finance, HR, IT, Marketing, and Recruiting). This is a practice-management role that ensures the healthcare consulting team has the operational infrastructure, tools, and processes to deliver exceptional client work efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Financial Management & Reporting
- Manage engagement economics, including WIP monitoring, billing cadence, collections support, and write-off review in coordination with Finance.
Resource Management & Staffing Operations
- Lead resource planning and staffing across the practice, matching consultant skills and availability to engagement demands.
- Monitor consultant utilization and bench; proactively flag underutilization or staffing gaps to practice leadership.
- Coordinate with Recruiting and HR on hiring forecasts, workforce planning, and headcount tracking for the practice.
- Oversee the consultant onboarding process, ensuring new hires are integrated quickly with the right tools, access, training, and engagement assignments.
- Support practice-wide capacity planning and scenario modeling for growth, seasonal demand shifts, and large-pipeline pursuits.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Design, document, and implement standardized internal processes and workflows across the practice to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Identify operational pain points and lead continuous-improvement initiatives (e.g., engagement setup, internal quality reviews, knowledge management).
- Develop and maintain practice playbooks, templates, and knowledge repositories to accelerate onboarding.
- Evaluate and recommend technology tools and platforms that improve practice operations (e.g., resource scheduling, data analytics).
- Serve as the practice's primary liaison to BRG IT for tool deployment, access provisioning, and system support.
Business Development Support & Pipeline Management
- Maintain and manage the practice's business development pipeline, tracking pursuits from lead identification through proposal submission, oral presentation, and win/loss outcome.
- Coordinate with practice leadership and Marketing on RFP responses, proposal timelines, and submission logistics; ensure proposals are completed on schedule and meet firm quality standards.
- Maintain a centralized pipeline dashboard providing leadership with real-time visibility into active pursuits, stage, probability, estimated value, and staffing implications.
- Support go/no-go decision processes by compiling relevant background, conflict checks, and resource-availability data for leadership review.
- Track BD metrics, including pipeline conversion rates, win rate, average pursuit cycle time, and revenue by client; identify trends and recommend improvements to the BD process.
- Coordinate with Marketing on thought-leadership publication schedules, conference participation, and client-event logistics to align BD efforts with brand-building activities.
- Manage CRM data hygiene and reporting for the practice, ensuring client contacts, interaction logs, and opportunity records are current and complete.
Practice Governance & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with BRG shared services (Finance, HR, IT, Marketing, Legal, Compliance) to ensure the practice's operational needs are met.
- Support practice leadership meetings, offsites, and strategic planning sessions; prepare agendas, materials, and follow-up tracking.
- Manage practice-level compliance with firm policies, including engagement risk reviews, conflicts checks, and quality assurance protocols.
- Track and report on practice-level KPIs and strategic initiatives; maintain dashboards for leadership visibility.
- Coordinate practice-wide communications, announcements, and internal events in partnership with practice leadership and Marketing.
Talent Operations & Practice Culture
- Partner with practice leadership and HR on performance management processes, including calibration, ratings, and promotion cycles.
- Coordinate training and professional development programs for the practice, including internal skill-building sessions and external certifications.
- Support retention initiatives, engagement surveys, and culture-building activities across the practice.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in operations management, practice management, business operations, or program management, preferably within a professional services or consulting environment.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen, including comfort with P&L management, utilization tracking, and profitability analysis.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing operational processes and process-improvement initiatives.
- Experience coordinating cross-functionally with Finance, HR, IT, and other shared services teams.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, operations, healthcare administration, or a related field (graduate degree preferred).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and business intelligence or reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive initiatives to completion in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a practice-management or business-operations role within a management consulting firm.
- Familiarity with the healthcare industry, including health systems, payers, or healthcare services organizations.

Salary Range: $165 - $185k
