Senior Operating Engineer – JLL

What this job involves: As a Senior Operating Engineer at JLL, you will support the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of critical building systems within a mixed-use facility environment. This role is responsible for maintaining HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable building operations. You will play an important role in identifying operational improvements and energy-saving opportunities while delivering high-quality service to building occupants, clients, and internal teams. The ideal candidate is a hands-on maintenance professional who can work independently, prioritize work assignments, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC systems, water chillers, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other building systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues related to building equipment and facility systems.

  • Monitor and maintain building automation and controls systems to support efficient facility performance.

  • Identify and implement energy-saving opportunities through system optimization and operational improvements.

  • Complete routine building maintenance tasks and assist with general facility upkeep as needed.

  • Utilize CMMS technology to manage work orders, track maintenance activities, and document completed work.

  • Collaborate with team members, contractors, vendors, and building occupants to support daily facility operations and service delivery.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of technical experience in commercial building engineering or facility maintenance.

  • Strong hands-on experience in at least one technical trade such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, or general building maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems including pumps, motors, air handlers, automation/controls systems, and associated electrical systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic plumbing and electrical repairs independently.

  • Proficiency using computers, Microsoft Office Suite, handheld electronic devices, and CMMS/work order management systems.

  • Valid state driver’s license required.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Universal EPA 608 Certification.

  • Knowledge of MEP and HVAC system design and applications.

  • Experience working within mixed-use or commercial facility environments.

  • Familiarity with energy management and sustainability best practices.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage relationships effectively with clients, contractors, and cross-functional teams.

  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Location: Nashville, TN

Work Shift: The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The role also includes participation in an on-call rotation schedule to support building operations and address any after-hours needs as they arise. 

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
