Position Overview
Zelis is modernizing its infrastructure estate — migrating workloads to AWS and Azure, consolidating data centers, and re-platforming the network for a cloud-first, high-availability future. We are hiring a Senior Network Engineer in Hyderabad to help lead this transformation from the ground up: designing and operating resilient network architectures across on-premises data centers and hybrid cloud, executing complex migration and consolidation cutovers, and keeping a healthcare-grade environment secure, observable, and always on.This is a hands-on senior role for an engineer who can own technically demanding work end to end — architecture through troubleshooting — drive it independently to closure, and partner closely with stakeholders across both the US and India organizations in a matrixed, follow-the-sun operating model.Key Responsibilities:Cloud modernization & hybrid connectivity
- Design and deliver hybrid and cloud network architectures across AWS and Azure — VPC/VNet design, Transit Gateway/Virtual WAN, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute, VPN, DNS, and segmentation — aligned to the cloud modernization roadmap.
- Build connectivity between on-premises data centers and cloud landing zones, ensuring performance, redundancy, and secure east-west and north-south traffic flows.
- Codify the network as infrastructure — authoring and reviewing Terraform and Ansible so cloud and hybrid network changes are repeatable, versioned, and auditable.
Data center consolidation & migration
- Plan and execute network cutovers for data center consolidation and workload migration — discovery, dependency mapping, low-level design, migration runbooks, and rollback plans.
- Lead cutover events including out-of-hours change windows, coordinating validation and hyper-care with application, cloud, and infrastructure teams across sites.
- Refactor and decommission legacy DC network components (routing, switching, firewall rules, load-balancer configs, IP space) as sites are consolidated, retiring technical debt safely.
Network engineering & operations
- Design, implement, and operate enterprise routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VXLAN/EVPN), data center fabric (Cisco Nexus/ACI or equivalent), SD-WAN, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Own complex troubleshooting as an escalation point for high-severity and cross-domain network incidents — driving root-cause analysis, resolution, and prevention with minimal supervision.
- Strengthen resilience and security through segmentation, zero-trust principles, and hardening consistent with healthcare compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and Zelis standards.
Observability, automation & continuous improvement
- Improve visibility using monitoring and observability tooling (e.g., SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, NetFlow, SNMP, Datadog) with actionable alerting and dashboards.
- Automate recurring work — configuration management, compliance checks, and remediation — using Python, Ansible, and CI/CD to reduce manual effort and change risk.
- Maintain standards — up-to-date designs, runbooks, and diagrams (HLD/LLD) — and contribute to network standards, patterns, and best practices.
Collaboration & stakeholder engagement
- Partner across US and India stakeholders — cloud, DevOps, SRE, IT operations, security, and application teams — in a matrixed, follow-the-sun model, ensuring smooth handoffs and shared context.
- Drive work independently translating ambiguous requirements into clear plans, sequencing tasks, and delivering to timelines without close oversight.
- Communicate clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders — status, risk, and impact — and mentor junior engineers on the team.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on enterprise network engineering experience, including a senior/lead role on medium-to-large environments.
- Deep, demonstrable expertise in routing and switching — BGP, OSPF, VLANs, spanning tree, and multicast — with strong fundamentals in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and NAT.
- Proven data center networking experience (Cisco Nexus/ACI, Arista, or equivalent) and hands-on hybrid cloud networking in AWS and/or Azure (VPC/VNet, Transit Gateway/vWAN, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute, VPN, security groups/NSGs).
- Hands-on experience with firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower/ASA, or Fortinet), load balancers (F5 or equivalent), and SD-WAN.
- Direct experience delivering data center migration and/or consolidation projects, including cutover planning and execution during change windows.
- Practical network automation skills — Python and/or Ansible — and working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and Git-based workflows.
- Strong, independent troubleshooting ability across the network stack, with a structured root-cause approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with a track record of collaborating across geographically distributed (US/India) teams and time zones.
- Design hybrid-cloud networking solutions connecting AWS, on-premises data centers, and third-party providers.
- Leverage Megaport and similar cloud interconnection platforms to provide scalable and resilient connectivity.
- Drive network automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, APIs, and Git.
- Industry certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, and cloud networking certifications (AWS Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate).
- Experience with VXLAN/EVPN fabrics, zero-trust / micro segmentation, and DNS/IPAM platforms (e.g., Infoblox).
- Familiarity with observability at scale (Logic Monitor, New Relic, Datadog) and ITSM/change-management practices (Jira Service Management).
- Exposure to regulated environments (healthcare, payments, or financial services) and associated compliance controls.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to standards, design reviews, or communities of practice.
- Ownership & drive — takes tasks to closure independently and proactively removes blockers.
- Technical depth & troubleshooting — strong first-principles problem solving under pressure.
- Collaboration — builds trust and works effectively across a US–India matrix.
- Clear communication — concise, accurate, and audience-aware.
- Continuous improvement — automates, documents, and raises the standard of the environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics/Communications, or a related field
- Location & model: Hyderabad, India; hybrid with sustained overlap into US business hours to support the follow-the-sun operating model.
- On-call: Participation in an on-call/change-window rotation for high-severity incidents and planned migration/cutover events.
