We're seeking a Senior Migration Architect to lead cloud transformation efforts for the United States Coast Guard at C5ISC in Alexandria, VA. You'll define the strategic roadmap for migrating critical capabilities that support mission-critical Coast Guard operations to cloud infrastructure.
Primary Responsibilities:
Cloud Migration & Modernization- Lead complex migration projects from planning through execution.
- Assess legacy systems for cloud readiness and design modernization strategies (e.g., containerization, microservices).
- Develop migration methodologies that minimize disruption and ensure smooth onboarding.
- Optimize performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of applications in cloud environments.
- Architect scalable, resilient, and secure solutions on AWS and Azure.
- Define cloud strategy, roadmaps, reference architectures, and technical standards.
- Guide architectural reviews and provide expert recommendations on technical decisions.
- Serve as the primary authority on migrating legacy and on-prem systems to the cloud.
- Mentor and guide technical teams throughout migration efforts.
- Promote DevOps practices, automation, and infrastructure as code.
- Implement zero-trust security principles and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Monitor and optimize cloud spend through cost management strategies.
- Balance performance, security, and financial efficiency in solution design.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into cloud solutions.
- Work cross-functionally with development, operations, and security teams.
- Present designs and roadmaps to leadership and maintain technical documentation
- Align cloud solutions with business objectives and ROI goals.
- Manage large-scale projects using Agile/Scrum, with risk and change management expertise.
- Support vendor negotiations, contracts, and IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires BS and 12+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- 8+ years of hands-on cloud architecture and implementation experience
- 4+ years of experience with both AWS and Azure platforms
- 2+ years serving in a senior or lead architect role
- Proven track record managing cloud transformation projects over $1M in scope
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional and Azure Solutions Architect Expert certifications
- Strong expertise in designing multi-cloud and hybrid architectures, including cross-cloud integration and cost optimization
- Extensive experience with cloud migration methodologies (6 R’s framework, wave-based migration planning/execution)
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline design (Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, managed services)
- Deep understanding of cloud security and compliance frameworks, including CSPM, IAM, SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, FedRAMP, and FISMA
- Demonstrated ability to conduct cloud security audits and assessments
- Must, at a minimum, have one of these certifications: AWS Certified Security - Specialty, Microsoft Azure Security Engineer Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), TOGAF 9 Certified, or CISSP or CISM for security focus
