This role is similar to radio technician, electronics technician, communications technician, radio service, tower technician, telecommunications specialist, broadcast technologist, radio frequency (RF) signalman, power systems control craftsman and land mobile radio service positions.

A day in the life:
Design, construct, install, maintain, repair and manage projects for all voice and data two-way radio, analog and digital microwave wireless network systems throughout Oregon for customers including our agency, Oregon State Police, the Fire Marshall’s office and more.
Analyze data collected from customers, develop preliminary system specifications and present options, costs and alternatives for customer selection.
Develop preliminary equipment and infrastructure requirements, prepare specifications to meet designs, and prepare and award final bids.
Research and identify locations for major system modifications or replacements then assemble and coordinate teams to complete projects.
Develop training plans and schedule then deliver them to customers and other information system personnel.
Evaluate situations and resolve questions or customer inquiries.
Identify, diagnose, track and report problems and determine repair or replacement priorities.
Contact multiple equipment vendors to obtain technical information and request repair or upgrades.
Maintain systems and equipment to ensure peak operating condition.
Operate a Sno-Cat or UTV (utility task vehicle) in inclement weather or rough conditions to gain access to remote locations to repair, install and provide emergency restoration of equipment or systems.
Climb and work on towers and antenna structures up to 180 feet above ground and work with high voltages.
Considerable region-wide or statewide travel in all weather conditions and time of day required.
Move or lift heavy objects excess of 70 pounds following safety procedures.

Minimum qualifications:
Five (5) years of information systems experience in wireless systems (i.e., two-way radio, microwave);
OR
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND three (3) years of information systems experience in wireless systems (i.e., two-way radio, microwave);
OR
A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in wireless systems (i.e., two-way radio, microwave).
Special qualifications:
This position requires a maximum 60 minute response time to 63055 N Highway 97, Bend, OR 97703 for emergency call-outs.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Understanding of microwave theory and related concepts: This includes knowledge of impedance matching, waveguides, antennas, and various measurement techniques.
Ability to install and configure microwave systems: This includes integrating new systems with existing infrastructure.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical information clearly to clients and colleagues.
Proven experience identifying and resolving issues efficiently and effectively.
Proven experience adjusting to varying environments, protocols, and technological changes efficiently.
Excellent time management skills with experience organizing workload and meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration initiatives as well as working effectively with colleagues.
