About MBRYONICS

MBRYONICS is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product

portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - Senior Mechanisms Engineer - to join our group.

What you'll do

  • To become a key part of the senior mechanical engineering team and help deliver on MBRYONICS aspiring goals from optical communications terminals to the underpinning manufacturing processes.
  • Take hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through qualification to on-orbit operations to support internal and external customer needs
  • Implement continued development of engineering practices and procedures within a blossoming start-up environment.
  • Day-to-day the application of CAD design, close-form calculations, finite element analysis (FEA) and prototyping skills to realise various types of mechanisms and electro-optic systems to ensure optical and structural performance across environments.
  • Develop novel solutions for, and improve on, existing space mechanism systems through innovative approaches, creative inputs, and by leveraging former engineering background/experiences.
  • Ensure mechanism designs meet space-grade standards (e.g., MIL‑STD, ECSS), produce and maintain GD&T-controlled drawings, procedures, and Bills of Materials under formal configuration control.
  • Utilise a hands-on approach, be proactive and consistently help to progress product development in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Assist with motivating, mentoring and enhancing the team’s capabilities while thriving on setting and achieving your own mission deadlines.

Who you are

  • 6+ years of mechanical, aerospace, and/or electromechanical design and analysis.
  • B.Eng/M.Eng in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronic Engineering or relevant field
  • Understanding of early-stage prototyping and product development
  • Exposure to common manufacturing processes
  • Experience with commercial CAD packages (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) and simulation tools (e.g., Simcenter, Femap, Nastran).

Desirable Requirements/Technical Skills/Education:

  • Experience designing, building, and testing moving mechanical assemblies for aerospace applications (satellite mechanical systems, payloads, launch vehicles, propulsion systems, and/or aircraft structures and mechanisms).
  • Experience with ECSS-E-ST-33-01, NASA-STD-5017, SMC-S-016, and GSFC-STD-7000 for the design and qualification of in-space Moving Mechanism Assemblies.
  • Experience with kinematic synthesis, electromechanical actuation, mechatronics and instrumentation.
  • Experience with bearing analysis, preload techniques, and preload measurement.
  • Exposure to space industry standards (ECSS/MIL-STD), CI/CD for mechanical releases, configuration control, and quality systems (ISO 9001 etc.).
  • Experience with the practical application of GD&T
  • Demonstrated ability to own moving mechanism assemblies across the full product lifecycle in a high velocity environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems in space environments and operations
  • Knowledge of or keen interest in the space sector would be an advantage.
  • Actively engaged in the field of space mechanisms and continuous professional development.
  • Experience in Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Independent and self-motivated mindset, with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills across disciplines
