General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.

Job Description

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Develop next-generation avionics systems, focusing on mechanical aspects
  • Analyse requirements, design, implement, and verify mechanical sub-assemblies and components
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior mechanical engineers
  • Contribute to conceptual designs for Avionics platforms and ensure design assurance needs are met within time and budget constraints
  • Produce detailed CAD (Creo Parametric) design layouts, manufacturing drawings, and manage configuration including complete BoM generation
  • Choose material forming solutions suitable for component duty and quantity
  • Perform and report on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Creo Simulate and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using Flotherm XT
  • Support project estimating, manage work to meet cost estimates and schedules, and participate in internal, customer, and supplier meetings
  • Conduct investigations, develop solutions, and write technical reports
  • Assist with other engineering duties (e.g., testing, experimentation, modelling) as workload demands

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • Significant experience in mechanical design, particularly in avionics systems
  • Degree level education in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency in CAD software, specifically Creo Parametric
  • Knowledge of BS8888 standards for technical product documentation and specification
  • Ability to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Creo Simulate
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using Flotherm XT
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Additional Information

This role has a starting salary of between £45,600 and £57,000 plus our flexible benefits package.

We are open to this role being spent with time working from home and in the office (hybrid - typically 3 days working in office) on a weekly basis or fully in our offices.
