Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

What you will do
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to provide technical leadership for custom Air Handling Unit (AHU), Data Centre Cooling, CRAH, Fan Wall, and CDU.
The successful candidate will act as the primary technical interface between customers and the engineering organisation, working closely with clients to define requirements, develop innovative solutions, and drive projects from concept through prototype validation and product release.
The role requires a highly experienced engineer capable of translating complex customer requirements into practical and manufacturable product solutions.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for leading technical discussions, reviewing and approving designs, supporting Prototype validation and mentoring mechanical engineers.
How you will do it
- Participate in strategic product development initiatives and technology roadmaps.
- Act as the technical lead for the development of new products and customer-specific solutions
- Interface directly with customers to understand, challenge, clarify, and define technical requirements.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable standards, and company design practices.
- Lead customer-facing technical meetings and workshops throughout project development.
- Translate customer requirements into clear engineering designs.
- Develop innovative and practical HVAC solutions while balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
- Drive projects from concept stage through detailed engineering, prototype validation, and production release.
- Lead technical feasibility assessments and risk reviews.
- Perform coil selections and fan/pump selections using approved selection software and methodologies.
- Prepare and review technical submittals, compliance documents, and customer reports.
- Support prototype testing, validation, and performance verification activities.
- Work closely with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, controls, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Resolve technical issues arising during design, manufacturing, testing, and field operation.
- Review and approve Bid Submittals completed by junior and intermediate engineers prior to customer submission (AHU, CRAH, CDU, etc…)
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the mechanical engineering team.
- Support customer presentations, technical proposals, and bid reviews.
- Provide engineering sign-off for critical design deliverables where required.
What we look for
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years in HVAC mechanical design engineering
- Extensive knowledge of Air Handling Unit (AHU) design and HVAC industry standards and codes is preferred
- Proven track record of leading complex customer-driven engineering projects.
- Demonstrated experience acting as a technical consultant and trusted advisor to customers.
- Experience managing projects from concept through prototype validation and production handover.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing considerations and product lifecycle management.
- Experience supporting Data Centre cooling equipment/applications preferred.
- Experience with chilled water and refrigerant pipework design would be a significant advantage
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and influence multidisciplinary teams.
- Customer-focused mindset with excellent relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
