A Day in the LifeThe Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center (MEIC) supports global engineering, operations, and supply chain initiatives across Medtronic businesses. Within the Global Operations and Supply Chain (GOSC) organization, this role contributes to supplier transfer, localization, vertical integration, and cost optimization programs that strengthen supply chain performance and deliver sustainable business value.
The position partners with global suppliers and cross-functional teams including engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and operations to identify, evaluate, and execute strategic cost reduction and supplier management initiatives. The role also supports ideas evaluation, strategic planning for cost reduction programs, engineering documentation, remediation, manufacturability improvements, and engineering change management activities across product portfolios.
This position is based in Hyderabad, India and follows a Flex work model. No travel is expected for this role.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for leading medium to high complexity supplier transfer and cost optimization initiatives through engineering analysis, supplier collaboration, and cross-functional execution. The role combines mechanical engineering expertise, manufacturing knowledge, financial assessment, and supplier engagement to deliver cost savings, supply chain resiliency, and product sustainment outcomes while maintaining compliance with applicable engineering and quality requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Hands on expertise on design or engineering documentation gap assessments, manufacturing print reviews and remediation activities for RFQ activities.
  • Participate in ideation workshops to assess project scoping and viability through economic analysis and supplier quote validation for programmatic savings projects.
  • Experienced in product sustenance engineering activities with expertise across design, manufacturing methods (Stamping, Plastics, Packaging, PDC parts), production processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Good understanding and application of financial terms used for cost savings opportunities during project scoping and proposal creations.
  • Proven ability to generate, evaluate, prioritize cost reduction proposals through should-costing, material analysis, supplier optimization, financial assessment and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in material engineering, commodity and supplier strategy, and spend analytics to identify, assess and prioritize data-driven cost reduction opportunities across products, materials and supply chains.
  • Experience in business case development and execute strategic savings initiatives that deliver measurable business value.
  • Skilled in coordinating with suppliers and cross functional groups to resolve technical queries, ensuring timely and high-quality project delivery.
  • Create, Review and refine 2D drawings and 3D CAD models to support project requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in reverse engineering components to recreate CAD models
  • Review and validate engineering drawings for DFMA, Manufacturability, Accuracy and Completeness as per the latest Engineering standards.
  • Well versed with Engineering Change management procedures using PDM/PLM Softwares (Agile, Windchill, etc.,)
  • Well versed with MS and Power BI tools for reporting, data analysis and dashboard creation purpose.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design, product sustenance, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or cost optimization initiatives.
  • Advance degree (PG/Masters) in Plastics, Material, Tool design etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical device regulations (MDR,FDA,CE,IEC)
  • DFMEA/PFMEA and design reviews to assess and mitigate design & Manufacturing risks.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies (DFSS/DMAIC/LSS) for problem solving and cost/process/design improvements projects.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate waste, improve process flow, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • VAVE experience for cost down project execution and certification (SAVE/INVEST)
  • PMP trained/ Certified
  • Knowledge of PowerBI, Data analytics, Python for process automation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influence management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
