At CRA, we're creating
purpose-engineered solutions that power the Energy and Defence sectors. As an
integrated engineering powerhouse, we design, engineer, and manufacture
everything in-house — giving us unmatched control over quality and innovation.
Our solutions are trusted by industry leaders including BrahMos Aerospace,
ONGC, OIL, Indian Airforce, and Schlumberger.
We've entered an
extraordinary growth phase — tripling in size over the last three years. Today,
with 100+ professionals, we're positioned at the intersection of two rapidly
expanding sectors.
As Senior Mechanical Design
Engineer – Defence, you will independently own complete mechanical and piping
design packages for defence projects — from concept through fabrication-ready
drawings. You will bring deep expertise in mechanical and piping design for
defence-sector equipment, lead design reviews, and act as the technical design
authority on your projects, reviewing and guiding the work of associate and
junior designers.
This role is suited to an
experienced design engineer who can independently drive design packages for
complex, mission-critical equipment, resolve cross-functional design issues,
and mentor junior designers.
- Independently own
end-to-end mechanical and piping design packages for assigned defence projects
— from concept through detailed fabrication drawings
- Lead 3D modelling of
complex equipment (skids, ducts, enclosures, flares, burners) and piping
systems, ensuring layout practicality and spatial coordination
- Produce and approve 2D
manufacturing drawings — fabrication drawings, detailed part drawings, piping
isometrics, and assembly drawings — with correct tolerancing and welding
information
- Translate PFDs, P&IDs,
and defence-specific technical requirements into mechanical/piping layouts with
nozzle orientation, line routing, and support schemes
- Ensure design compliance
with industry codes and defence project specifications (ASME B31.3, EN 13480,
ISO tolerancing, and applicable defence/military standards)
- Develop and own structured
BOMs, keeping them aligned with procurement needs and drawing revisions
- Lead advanced clash checks,
fit-up simulations, and constructability reviews for complex assemblies
- Lead internal design
reviews with QC, procurement, and production, and represent design in
client-facing technical discussions on defence programmes
- Review associate and junior
designers' drawings, providing technical redlines, guidance, and mentorship
- Drive continuous
improvement in design standards, templates, and BOM practices
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in
Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3–6 years of experience in
mechanical/piping design, with substantial exposure to defence-sector projects
- Expert proficiency in both
2D and 3D CAD design for mechanical and piping systems
- Deep expertise in
mechanical/piping standards, fabrication methods, and BOM practices, including
defence-specific design and documentation requirements
- Proven track record of
independently owning design packages for complex equipment, from concept to
fabrication-ready drawings
- Strong knowledge of
GD&T, weld symbols, pressure design basics, and assembly logic
- Experience reviewing and
mentoring associate or junior designers
- Strong ownership of output
accuracy and ability to coordinate across disciplines
- Comfortable working under
schedule constraints and client-driven requirements, including defence
documentation and compliance protocols.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation
package
