About the RoleWe’re looking for a strategic, resourceful, and market-savvy Senior Marketing Manager to lead marketing in Japan — one of Airwallex’s fastest-growing and most exciting markets.
As our first marketing hire in Japan, you’ll be responsible for shaping and executing our go-to-market and brand strategy locally. This is a unique opportunity to build the Airwallex brand from the ground up in Japan, working closely with our global and regional marketing teams, Japan Country Manager (CM), sales, product, and PR teams.
You’ll bring a deep understanding of the Japanese business and cultural landscape, ensuring our campaigns and messaging resonate locally while aligning with Airwallex’s global positioning. You’ll also manage and mentor a Marketing Executive (contractor) to support execution across campaigns and initiatives.
This is a critical and strategic role fo Airwallex Japan in terms of increasing awareness and relevance, strengthening partnerships and engagements of critical customers and partners, growing infant Japan business CM and sales team. Therefore, you will be closely working with not only Marketing and Sales, but also CM directly.
What you'll doMarketing Strategy & Planning
Develop and own the marketing strategy and annual plan for Japan, aligned with APAC and global objectives.
Partner closely with CMthe Country Manager and commercial teams to design and execute fully integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness, consideration, and pipeline growth.
Provide market insights into Japan’s competitive landscape, customer needs, product-market fit, regulatory environment, and emerging opportunities.
Campaigns, Content & Localisation
Localise global and regional campaigns for Japan — adapting messaging, tone, and creative assets for local resonance.
Lead the creation and localisation of marketing content, including customer stories, blogs, social media, web copy, and email campaigns.
Work with the product and sales teams to support go-to-market launches and ensure feedback loops between marketing and commercial teams.
Events & Partnerships
Develop and execute an events strategy for Japan in collaboration with the regional field marketing team — from industry conferences to Airwallex-hosted experiences.
Own partnerships with key associations, affiliates, and ecosystem partners to drive revenue and brand visibility.
Build relationships with influential business and fintech communities to amplify Airwallex’s presence and credibility.
PR & Communications
Partner with the regional and global PR & Communications teams to identify local stories, spokespeople, and media opportunities.
Provide market insights and support for press releases, thought leadership, and public-facing communications.
Performance, Reporting & Budget Management
Track and report on marketing performance metrics — including brand awareness, lead generation, and campaign ROI.
Manage and allocate the Japan marketing budget effectively, ensuring resources are used strategically for maximum impact.
Provide on-the-ground insights to refine targeting, creative performance, and audience engagement.
Account Based Marketing (ABM)
Develop and Execute Target Account Strategy: Define and lead the ABM strategy for high-value enterprise accounts and critical partners with CM and Sales
Create Account Specific Marketing Initiatives: Design and implement highly customized marketing programs, content, and touchpoints to engage decision-makers within target accounts and accelerate pipeline conversion.
Measure and Optimize ABM ROI: Track and report on key ABM metrics, including account engagement and pipeline impact, using insights to continuously refine the target list and campaign execution for maximum effectiveness.
Project Management & Problem Solving
Manage end-to-end marketing initiatives: Lead and deliver complex marketing projects (e.g., product launches, major events).
Proactive Issue Resolution: Identify and solve project roadblocks to ensure strategic goals are met.
Vendor & Resource Coordination: Coordinate budget, internal stakeholders, external vendors, and the Marketing Executive to maximize output.
A self-starter with a strong understanding of Japan’s business and marketing landscape.
A strategic thinker who can translate insight into impactful marketing initiatives campaigns - and a hands-on executor who can make them happen.
A collaborator and strong problem solver who thrives in cross-functional environments, working seamlessly with regional and global teams.
A clear and persuasive communicator, fluent in both Japanese and English.

6+ years’ experience in marketing, with proven success in Japan’s B2B or tech sectors.
Strong problem solving skills and project management even in ambiguous situations
Experience managing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
Strong understanding of the Japanese SME and mid-market audience.
Knowledge across key disciplines including field marketing, ABM, partnerships, content creation and amplification, as well as digital performance marketing.
Experience managing vendors, agencies, or outsourced teams.
Ability to operate autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced, global environment.
Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
