Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, Product Management (Education) focuses on achieving Standards’ strategy and long-term objectives by supporting the knowledge, application and use of standards through the development and deployment of high-quality education products and services. The Senior Manager is responsible for developing and implementing market-specific strategies and maximizing investments in Education resources to support training, upskilling and reskilling in Canada and beyond. Education products and services include courses, learning materials and credentialling across a wide range of roles and sectors. Using their understanding of adult learning theories and industry trends in the postsecondary, industry and continuing education environments, the Senior Manager sets the Education strategy and oversees business case development for new education products and services. The Senior Manager ensures effective portfolio lifecycle management and road mapping for new and existing products, engages with top internal and external interested parties, ensures the team builds strategic relationships and showcases capabilities, and oversees large and complex proposal and agreement development. Works closely with Education Product Development, Standards Development, Marketing, Sales, Licensing & Distribution, Customer Success, Information Technology, and Data Analytics teams to optimize the innovation, delivery and maintenance of Education products and services.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees development of long-term competitive and market assessments, focusing on needs assessments and the clear articulation of market characteristics, learner and employer personas and desired outcomes

  • Ensures plans translate to commercially viable education business opportunities that result in revenue and margin growth through education product development, sales and distribution

  • Identifies, implements and quantifies the return on investments in resources to support access, knowledge and application of standards

  • Leads the strategic planning process for Education products, recommending how to advance in key areas

  • Ensures team follows consistent product and lifecycle management processes, including annual business planning, for all education products and services including ecommerce functionality

  • Ensures effective business methodologies, operating procedures, tools and resources are in place for product management functions

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction to the team

  • Recruits, leads, coaches and motivates a high-performance team by building career paths for professional growth, through goal setting, continuous feedback, mentoring and training

  • Engages with Sales and Marketing leaders to develop long-term Education strategy including product roadmaps, profitable business models and product and services pricing strategy, effective organizational structure and roles, and effective go-to-market approaches including sales and marketing campaigns and activities

  • Develops and maintains relationships and identifies strategic opportunities with key internal and external contacts including government, academic and industry leaders and CSA committees

  • Works with Sales and Marketing teams to ensure implementation of effective strategic sales strategy to grow overall revenue in education

  • Leads development of business cases for investment in education products and services and ensures effective management of projects including adherence to cost, quality and time targets

  • Contributes to monthly reforecast and business analysis processes

  • Oversees development of annual education product and services marketing plan and provides input to Marketing for implementation

  • Monitors strategic sales activities for education products and services including sales pipeline development and reporting, opportunity qualification, and proposal and agreement writing and strong win/loss ratio; engages with cross-functional teams to support proactive and nimble response to opportunities

  • Ensures continuous improvement of product management team processes, leveraging Lean methodology for process improvement initiatives

  • Identifies hazardous or potentially hazardous situations and takes appropriate action to maintain a safe environment for self and others

  • Recommends improved safety procedures where appropriate

  • Ensure all direct reports have the prescribed HSSE training and/or PPE for the job

  • Identifies potentially unsafe conditions in the workplace

  • Conducts analysis to avoid hazards in the workplace

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate University degree in science, engineering, humanities, business or related field

  • Master’s Degree or MBA an asset

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product development for education, with a focus on post-secondary or continuing education levels

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of people management experience

  • Understanding of adult learning theories and practices, industry trends in post-secondary, industry and continuing education environments

  • Ability to prioritize conflicting objectives and make decisions with incomplete/partial information

  • Strong business, research, and analytical skills

  • Flexibility to meet shifting deadlines, priorities, and market needs

  • Problem solving aptitude to resolve customer/member issues

  • Stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills

  • High degree of self-motivation

  • Strong leadership, strategic, organizational and planning skills

  • Strong oral and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills

  • Bilingualism (English/French) and knowledge of national and international standards industry would be a definite asset
