Position Summary
As the Senior Manager DevOps, you will play a leadership role in supporting our hybrid infrastructure, including both AWS cloud and on-premises environments, by applying best practices, automation, security, and efficiencies. This role involves evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions across our diverse technology stack. The Senior Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish efficient policies, execute effective migrations and projects, and support our lab operations, data scientists, and application development teams to establish the most effective solutions for the organization while ensuring the security and compliance of PHI and PII data.
Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, and stay current with emerging technologies in both AWS and on-premises environments.

  • Oversee the design, maintenance, and enhancement of our production environments, including AWS cloud services and on-premises infrastructure, focusing on security, reliability, scalability, and availability.

  • Champion automation efforts utilizing Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Ansible to streamline our infrastructure management across cloud and on-premises systems.

  • Supervise the development and optimization of logging and monitoring solutions, ensuring comprehensive visibility across hybrid cloud and on-premises systems.

  • Develop and enhance automation and robustness of data pipelines and associated infrastructure for Multi-Petabyte Data Lakes.

  • Lead the Root Cause Analysis process, driving issue resolution and minimizing future risks across all environments.

  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, data engineering development, QA, and IT.

  • Ensure the team's readiness for a 24x7 on-call rotation, managing scheduling and incident response for both cloud and on-premises systems.

  • Champion and coach teams transitioning to DevOps practices in a hybrid cloud environment.

  • Ensure data security and compliance in all processes, with a focus on AWS security best practices and on-premises security measures.


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps with bachelor's degree or 5+ years experience in DevOps with master's degree, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team lead role.

  • Familiarity with multi-cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Advanced Linux administration skills, including system optimization, security hardening, and troubleshooting.

  • Proficient in managing hybrid cloud environments, with a focus on AWS and on-premises integration

  • Strong experience with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, both in AWS (EKS) and on-premises.

  • Broad experience with management, monitoring, and reporting (MMR) implementations and monitoring tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, and Loki.

  • Experience documenting, building, and implementing new processes and procedures based on industry best practices for both cloud and on-premises environments. 

  • Demonstrable expertise in security practices with a focus on data protection in AWS and on-premises systems.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure architecture, including the relationships between databases, AWS cloud services, on-premises servers, and application servers.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a complex hybrid environment.

  • Proven experience with IaC tools like Terraform or AWS CDK, and configuration management tools like Ansible.

  • In-depth understanding of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and GitOps in both AWS and on-premises contexts.

  • Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks and enhancement opportunities.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI and GitHub Actions.

  • Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks and enhancement opportunities across hybrid environments.

  • Strong scripting and automation skills in Shell and Python, with experience in AWS CLI and SDK.

  • Deep understanding of modern DevOps practices and their integration with AWS and on-premises technologies.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in the Healthcare, Life Sciences, or Genomics industry, demonstrating leadership in similar roles with hybrid cloud environments.

  • Expertise in relational databases (e.g., Amazon RDS, MySQL, Postgres) in both AWS and on-premises deployments.

  • Experience working in high-performance compute (HPC) clusters.

  • Experience supporting AWS data services and pipelines like Athena, Glue, Lake Formation, and HealthOmics.

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional certification

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification.
