Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Content Strategy, the Senior Manager, Content Strategy is responsible for strategic planning and execution of content designed to engage and nurture customers through buying journey. The role will:

  • Use content as a strategic lever to shape customer perception, strengthen market credibility, and support commercial objectives by building trust, authority, and long-term brand value
  • Bring big-picture thinking to content strategy, connecting audience insights, business priorities, brand positioning, and campaign goals
  • Translate subject-matter expertise, customer insights and market trends into compelling thought leadership that differentiates the PPD clinical research business
  • Serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams, helping the organization think more holistically about content’s role in demand generation
  • Influence stakeholders across marketing and commercial teams to align on content priorities, messaging, and best practices
  • Be a talented writer and editor with experience creating multiple forms of content, including white papers, blogs, ebooks, infographics, videos, etc.
  • Understand the difference and relationship between thought leadership and content marketing and their associated activities and messages
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer segments, personas and journeys across the business
  • Be comfortable working with SMEs across the organization to leverage their expertise, insights and capabilities toward meaningful content
  • Experience with and curiosity about AI-assisted workflows
  • Support and advance the organizational content strategy designed to build brand awareness and engage and nurture leads and potential customers
  • Partner across the marketing team to contribute to a holistic, integrated content strategy and development process
  • Work closely with Global Market Development and ABM leads to plug into campaigns and design and draft a universe of content to support objectives
  • Advance data-driven storytelling and creation of foundational thought leadership
  • Support the editorial process for content planning and creation across the enterprise
  • Leverage performance metrics and best practices to optimize content and channels
  • Supports the research and development of content strategy guidance and best practices for all channels by creating content strategy documentation Develop messaging and content narratives that translate brand strategy and support enterprise-wide capabilities

Education and Experience: 

  • 7+ years’ experience in content strategy, planning and development
  • BA or BS required (MA/MS a plus); preference for degree in a writing-related field, such as journalism, PR, communications or marketing.
  • Prior CRO, life sciences or pharma industry experience a plus
  • In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.  

Competencies:

  • Conduct tasks correctly with little oversight; able to self-direct and manage large programs independently
  • Strong project management, analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Proactively make strategic recommendations to move a project forward and ensure timely delivery of deliverables, while keeping stakeholders apprised.
  • Excellent editorial judgment and strong storytelling capabilities across channels; able to immediately assimilate directional feedback into future deliverables
  • Excellent relationship management, stakeholder management and executive presentation skills; outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to articulate ideas clearly and concisely, and present as an expert in content strategy and development
  • Effectively manages expectations with team members, stakeholders and SMEs
  • Capable of independently managing vendors

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient at integrating SEO keywords into copy in order to ensure content is optimized for search engines.
  • Creative mindset with strong knowledge of current social, web and content development and emerging trends
  • Background working in content management systems, including web content management systems, social platforms, email, and other systems, a plus.
  • Can serve as a mentor/example to junior team members
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
