Do work that matters

Artificial Intelligence is transforming financial services. As organisations rapidly adopt AI and GenAI solutions, the need for robust governance, risk management and assurance has never been greater.

At CommBank, we're investing in the future of AI. We're looking for a Senior Audit Manager to join our Models, Data & AI Audit team and help provide independent assurance over some of the most complex and business-critical AI, model and data risks across the Group.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your expertise in AI, model risk, governance, audit or data risk with the scale and complexity of one of Australia's largest financial institutions.

See yourself in our team

Group Audit & Assurance (GA&A) provides independent, objective and commercial assurance to the Board Audit Committee, helping CommBank deliver long-term value and financial wellbeing for our customers, communities and shareholders.

Within GA&A, the Models, Data & AI Audit team specialises in providing assurance across model risk, data risk, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Our work spans the entire AI lifecycle, from development and validation through to deployment, governance and ongoing monitoring.

As a Senior Audit Manager, you'll work with senior stakeholders across Technology, Data, Risk, Compliance, Institutional Banking, Retail Banking and other key business areas. You'll play a critical role in helping the organisation understand and manage emerging AI risks while supporting innovation and responsible AI adoption.

Your impact

You will lead and contribute to audits, reviews and advisory engagements focused on AI, machine learning and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

Working at the intersection of technology, risk and governance, you'll assess the effectiveness of controls, challenge existing practices and provide insights that strengthen the organisation's approach to AI risk management.

You'll bring thought leadership on topics such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI governance
  • AI and model risk frameworks
  • Machine learning model development and validation
  • Model explainability, transparency and bias management
  • Data governance and AI infrastructure risks
  • Emerging global regulatory expectations and responsible AI practices

We're interested in hearing from people who have

  • Experience in AI Risk, Model Risk Management, Internal Audit, AI Governance, Data Risk or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of AI, machine learning and advanced analytics techniques, including large language models and emerging AI technologies
  • Experience developing, validating, governing or independently reviewing AI and machine learning models
  • An understanding of AI risk concepts including explainability, transparency, fairness, bias and model monitoring
  • Experience operating within regulated environments, particularly financial services, technology or other highly governed industries
  • Knowledge of emerging AI and technology regulations and how they impact organisations adopting AI at scale
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively at senior levels
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business insights
  • A relevant qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related field

Why join us?

This is more than a traditional audit role.

You'll be working in a highly visible team that sits at the centre of one of the most important challenges facing organisations globally: how to safely and responsibly harness the power of AI.

You'll gain exposure to enterprise-scale AI initiatives, emerging technologies, evolving regulatory frameworks and senior decision-makers while helping shape the future of AI assurance in financial services.

If you're ready to help define what good AI governance and assurance looks like at scale, we'd love to hear from you.
