As a Senior Level Designer, you will have proven experience building immersive, explorable environments for modern AAA titles. By blending your mastery of level design with a critical eye for layout and art, you will help create epic, memorable locations and worlds. Our incubation teams work at a fast pace and are ripe with challenges to take on.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position with some work from home and some in office, the home studio for this position is Irvine, CA.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Design game levels and contribute to overall world building from conception to the final stages of polish.

  • Implement level design project goals and objectives, ensuring the game's creative pillars are established and maintained throughout.

  • Partner with engineering and art to define and create efficient tooling that complements Blizzard's world-class handcrafted level design.

 

Requirements

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in the video game industry working as a level designer, having shipped at least one AAA title.

  • Demonstrated skill in level design processes including level flow, encounter design, pacing, storytelling, etc.

  • Strong understanding of level editing packages such as Unreal or other proprietary tools.

  • Good spatial design and layout skills.

  • A thorough understanding of game design sensibilities.

  • Ability to pitch game design concepts in a clear, detailed manner through strong written and verbal skills.

  • Experience using rapid prototyping to test the feasibility of concepts.

  • Passion for making games look and play great.

  • Ability to self-critique and accept outside feedback.

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

 

Extra Points

  • Experience with a variety of AAA game engines.

  • Skill and expertise with scripting in Unreal and Blueprint.

  • Familiarity with programming and scripting languages such as C++, C#, Lua, or JavaScript.

  • Knowledge of Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop, Zbrush, and Substance.

  • Passion for action games on console or PC.

  • A portfolio that includes visual examples of your favorite game spaces that you have created in your career to date.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
