Team/ Focus area: Legal
Location: New Delhi
Reporting to: Lead - Legal
Duration: Full-time
Purpose: CEEW is looking
to hire a legal expert for handling sensitive matters and routine tasks in this
domain involving risk analysis based on due diligence, contract negotiation and
review, drafting and reviewing organisational policy, and staying abreast of
the latest regulatory developments.
We need a professional who takes up ownership and
demonstrates a sense of responsibility in managing the tasks and helping
management make decisions on legal matters. If you have familiarity with the
development sector, that is an added bonus!

Job Responsibilities:
● Risk
Analysis: Ability to
conduct inter-sectional research and turn around nuanced risk analysis
documents that address key concerns and suggest pragmatic solutions.
● Contract
review: Ability to
review and revise a contract to harmonise the requirements of both parties,
reduce negotiation timelines and protect the interests of the organization. Ability to use contracts to craft innovative
solutions for what may appear to be roadblocks
● Policy
documents: Ability to create
compliance and working policy documents for the organisation
by distilling relevant provisions of applicable law into action items.
● Ownership
and problem-solving:
Takes complete responsibility for allocated work and is self-motivated to
complete tasks and solve problems. Ability to use the law as a tool to solve
problems.

Required knowledge base:
● Sound
knowledge of FCRA, Income Tax Act, the Trust Act and jurisprudence regarding
charitable trusts
● High degree of
familiarity with issues faced by development sector entities
● Familiarity
with data protection laws, laws of trust and equity, property laws, and
environmental laws.
● Smart
drafting skills
● Familiarity
with organisational compliance management
● Ability
to use AI as an assistant while retaining original and independent thinking
PQE: 5-6 years in any legal field
CEEW operates in a dynamic
environment, and the candidate will be required to show flexibility in
undertaking a variety of tasks.
Compensation:
Competitive compensation –
commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by
the industry or other similar organisations for similar roles.

Skills Required
- 5–6 years of post-qualification legal experience in any legal field
- Sound knowledge of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, Income Tax Act, Trust Act, and charitable trust jurisprudence
- Familiarity with legal issues faced by development-sector entities
- Familiarity with data protection, trust and equity, property, and environmental laws
- Strong legal drafting skills
- Familiarity with organizational compliance management
- Ability to use AI as an assistant while retaining independent judgment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to manage work independently and take ownership of responsibilities

It analyses critical questions concerning energy, environment and water, using data, integrated analysis and strategic outreach to influence resource use and sustainable development. CEEW conducts high-quality research and advises policymakers across India and the Global South through evidence-based public engagement.
