We are currently recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel for our Spanish market. This is a role comprising commercial, consumer protection, data privacy and labour and employment matters. You will work closely with colleagues from Europe and Japan across many departments. Reporting into the Legal Director, for Europe, and Spanish COO, with on direct report (Labour Law Specialist.)
What you will be responsible for:
Providing practical, low risk solutions to legal consultations from business, often with short deadlines
Proactively engaging with internal stakeholders and identify legal risks within business; propose and implement solutions
Handling various litigation and disputes arising within business, including customer claims (manage deadlines, devise strategies, coordinate with internal teams and external law firms)
Implementing low-cost and practical solutions for obtaining external legal support when necessary, including selecting and coordinating with law firms
Handling legal issues related to works council and collective bargaining agreements
Coordinating with Human Resources Spain and external lawyers on human resources matters, including employee relations and works council matters
Drafting various contracts and other legal documentation
Reviewing and edit third party drafts of contracts
Standardising, updating and maintaining contract templates
Negotiating contracts with vendors in coordination with business teams
Handling all aspects of corporate governance in Spain
Undertaking key role within Europe GDPR working team to strengthen data privacy practices in Spain
Coordinating with relevant departments to rectify non-compliances and implement sustainable solutions
Monitoring changes in Spanish legislation, analyse impact and propose solutions to the business
Educating employees on compliance matters including conducting training and presentations
Standardising and creating efficient work processes including drafting manuals
Updating and proposing solutions to management on crisis-related matters
Skills, Experience and Attributes:
Admitted to practice law in Spain
Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience at a law firm or in-house
Experience in transactional work, disputes and litigation in commercial, consumer protection, data privacy and labour and employment law
Experience working for a retail company preferred
Experience working in a global, multi-cultural environment preferred
Full professional proficiency in English, Spanish and Catalan
Working proficiency in Portuguese preferred
Ability to see holistically how legal position affects business and flexibly adapt position
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines
High flexibility and autonomy in dealing with and prioritising work scope
Willingness to readily respond to changing circumstances and expectations
Ability to work under tight budget constraints and minimise spending for legal advice
Open to domestic and overseas travels when required
Permanent right to work in Spain without needing visa sponsorship
