Responsibilities
- Advise on a wide range of legal and commercial matters, including cloud services, AI, technology licensing, open source software, and export control compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex software licensing, cloud services, cloud infrastructure, channel distribution agreements, and other general commercial agreements.
- Collaborate with external counsel and other Tencent attorneys worldwide (around 500 lawyers) , including in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the EU, the UK and the US, to provide compliance and regulatory analysis for international business initiatives.
- Identify potential legal risks, compliance gaps and regulatory challenges, and prepare creative, practical solutions to help business teams mitigate risks.
- Develop, implement and monitor internal compliance policies, knowledge management systems , and processes to address compliance issues, ensuring alignment with international regulatory standards.
- Create and deliver online training materials to educate business stakeholders and product teams on evolving laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Advise management on the implications of legal and regulatory developments.
Qualifications
We would like our candidate to have:
- 5-7 years of experience working in a law firm or in‑house legal department in the areas of technology, online platforms, cloud services, software development, or similar industry sectors.
- Strong academic credentials and membership in a relevant Bar, or possession of other recognized professional qualifications or equivalent membership. A second degree in computer science, engineering, or a similar subject is an advantage.
- A track record of making sound business judgments and the ability to deliver practical, commercially‑friendly, and comprehensive advice.
- Detail‑oriented, with extensive experience in legal compliance, commercial matters, intellectual property, and licensing transactions in cloud computing, AI, technology development, and bespoke tech projects.
- The ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment, independently manage day‑to‑day compliance work, and handle the end‑to‑end transaction process from initial contract review through to negotiation and execution.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in Mandarin Chinese and English, enabling effective collaboration with international stakeholders and those based at Mainland China HQ
- Be proactive, a strong team player, and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business stakeholders.
