As a Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel at KingMakers, you will be a key partner to the business by providing expert legal guidance across corporate, commercial and regulatory matters.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams (tax, finance, compliance, HR), engage with regulators and external counsel, and help ensure good governance and legal risk management in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Provide legal advice on corporate transactions and operational matters in Nigeria and, where needed, across the Group.
- Support regulatory engagement: stakeholder meetings, report submissions, compliance with tax and levies.
- Collaborate with corporate service providers and internal tax and finance teams.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements (leases, forex, supplier contracts, etc.).
- Update and maintain legal templates, including employment agreements.
- Handle IP-related matters, including cease and desist letters.
- Support company secretarial duties and ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements.
- Lead or support on AML and data protection audits and submissions.
- Manage escalated disputes and litigation, including engagement with law enforcement where required.
- Oversee regulatory filings with SCUML (CTR, CBTR, FTR).
- Manage supplier and regulatory KYC processes and due diligence projects.
- Train and mentor junior legal staff.
- Liaise with and coordinate external legal counsel.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor with 7+ years PQE in Nigeria.
- Experience in corporate and commercial law from a top law firm or established in-house legal team.
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian regulatory and compliance frameworks.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with ability to manage multiple projects.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and ability to handle confidential matters.
- Well-organised and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-moving industry.
