About the Opportunity

The Senior IT Administrator will support day-to-day operations of the USC Capital Campus, provide critical IT and AV support for tenants and client events, and support day-to-day operations of the Annenberg Studio. The role is responsible for keeping USC’s systems, equipment and production environments healthy, user-ready and supportable, including first response troubleshooting, basic administrative support, preventative maintenance and coordination with USC stakeholders, vendors, external clients and other network security partners.

The incumbent will work closely with the Capital Campus team and will coordinate regularly with LA-based IT teams for workflow alignment, system standards, documentation conventions, training and escalation support. This role is the onsite owner of operational readiness, documentation and escalation for Capital Campus IT and AV systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Event Support (50% time)
  • Provide onsite AV management and support for client and internal events in all Capital Campus venue spaces
  • Execute all AV event requirements for client and internal events in all Capital Campus venue spaces
  • Advise current and prospective event clients and Capital Campus staff on venue AV capabilities and equipment
  • Participate in pre-event preparatory calls with event clients as well as Capital Campus staff to finalize all AV event specifications
  • Review event collateral, including slide decks, videos, graphics and AV requirements, to ensure compatibility with Capital Campus AV systems
  • Oversee event AV set-up, tech checks and break down in all Capital Campus venue spaces
  • Oversee external event AV rentals, including orders, delivery, load-in, set-up and load-out
  • Oversee and manage external AV techs hired for additional event AV support
  • Send post-event AV deliverables, including recordings, to event clients
  • Annenberg Studio Operations and Client Support (20% time)
  • Serve as a first line of support for faculty, staff, students and guests using the studio –  opening, prepping and closing studio sessions and troubleshooting as needed
  • Maintain a consistent studio readiness checklist, including pre-session health checks and post-session resets
  • Support in-studio clients, including day-of production needs, video switching, monitoring, and playback confidence checks
  • Operate and monitor local studio storage capacity and health, facilitating file transfers and performing recovery actions as needed.
  • Ensure quality control integration and support joint UAT activities as needed.
  • Capital Campus Network and Connectivity Support (20% time)
  • Maintain operational health of Capital Campus networks, including isolated studio network
  • Assist with firewall or gateway operational checks or software and hardware updates as needed
  • Support remote monitoring workflows, including Parsec, VPN and approved remote support tools in coordination with security policy
  • Maintain configuration baselines, backups of critical configurations and periodic snapshot exports as required for fast rebuild
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching and updates for Capital Campus and studio systems in coordination with LA-based teams
  • Tenant Support (10% time)
  • Troubleshoot and identify hardware and software problems for Capital Campus tenants, resolving routine problems, replacing defective components and researching resources to identify solutions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate teams to facilitate basic end-point support for Capital Campus tenants
  • Develop documentation for systems administration procedures for Capital Campus tenants

Qualifications:

  • Preferred:
  • Experience with NDI, Dante and AV over IP network troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with firewall and remote access concepts, including VPN and controlled remote support workflows
  • Familiarity with authentication concepts such as AD and SSO
  • Experience with hypervisors and virtualized workloads including, Proxmox exposure
  • Basic scripting and automation capability for repeatable operational tasks
  • Required:
  • Advanced understanding of and experience with systems administration, backups, operating systems programming languages and associated hardware platforms
  • Experience supporting events and live production environments, broadcast, studio AV or media systems operations
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across signal flow, control and user workflow issues
  • Experience supporting macOS and Windows endpoints, plus basic server and storage administration
  • Ability to work calmly and professionally with high-visibility clients and last-minute schedule pressure
  • Strong documentation habits, including checklists, change logs and clear escalation notes

The hourly rate for this position is $53.67-$60.00. When determining an offer, the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key skills, internal peer alignment, applicable laws, contractual requirements, grant funding, and market conditions.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Advanced understanding of and experience with systems administration, backups, operating systems programming languages and associated hardware platforms. Previous systems administration experience required.
