Responsible for the preparation and review of investment accounting entries required to support the month end close and reporting process for a $3+ billion fixed income investment portfolio which continues to grow. The fixed income portfolio is made up of a mix of treasuries, MBS, ABS, CLOs, corporate bonds, municipals and term loans. Responsible for gathering and analyzing complex financial information related to the investment portfolio, evaluating accounting implications, and formulating recommendations for senior management based on findings. Provide technical guidance on investment accounting and internal controls over the investment portfolio. Responsible for continuous improvement through the evaluation of accounting and reporting controls and the implementation of corrective action plans; support of the implementation of projects to improve and/or facilitate accounting and reporting functions; working with internal and external auditors and implementing recommendations, as applicable; fielding internal and external inquiries, including those from external parties, and/or interfacing with senior management.

Prepare financial analyses with relevant written and verbal narratives including recommendations to management.

Coordinate and manage all the aspects related to the general ledger accounting on a GAAP basis for all the investments and to interact with the investment accounting system.

Review investment journal entries and account reconciliations including the amortization and accretion of premiums and discounts, assist with the monthly close activities, prepare schedules and other general accounting functions.

Analyze investment account activity and interact with the portfolio managers.

Assist with stress testing the investment portfolio and analyzing and reporting on the stress test results.

Assist with asset liability management (ALM) of the investment portfolio and coordinate with the finance team to prepare various ALCO reports.

Participate in investment accounting issues resolution and process procedural changes.

Research investment accounting policy (including technical accounting pronouncements, promulgated regulatory bulletins, and benchmarked industry information).

Gather and analyze complex investment financial information, evaluate investment accounting implications, and formulate recommendations for senior management based on findings.

Initiate projects to improve processes/controls, partner with project teams to ensure resolution of project/post-project issues and participate on cross-functional projects as a finance representative.

Provide assistance in the preparation of valuation materials and assist in monitoring of valuation procedures.

Assist with audits by providing requested information to auditors and resolve issues and draft resolutions.

Perform a detailed review of the yearly audited financial statements related to investments, make plans for alternative investment options, and after properly reviewing it, document it in an appropriate manner to be reviewed by the internal and external resources.

In conjunction with the portfolio management team, monitor for impairments, estimate allowances for credit losses and ensure proper recording of the allowance.

Maintain and enhance internal controls and perform self-testing.

Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan.
