Position Overview and Objective

The Senior Security Engineer role works within the Internal Security Operations team and is responsible for supporting the implementation and operation of security technologies within the Security Operations Center (SOC), in addition to security detection content development used in the protection of Arctic Wolf. This role will work closely with Cyber Operations Engineers to identify and build threat detections mapped to MITRE ATT&CK within our SIEM and work with other Information Security Engineers, Cloud Security and Security Architecture teams to deploy and operationalize critical technical security capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Develop, map, test, and deploy threat detections, correlations, and risk-based alerting within a SIEM.

Assist and review in the creation of predictions for the future of the threat landscape and goals and methods of threat actors.

Analyze incoming security events based on different data points, network, endpoint, and log sources expediently, consistently, and accurately.

Provide support for security incident escalations as needed.

Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills required to clearly articulate and explain proposed solutions to internal security team and other stakeholders.

Implement and configure off-the-shelf security technologies in the Arctic Wolf internal environment.

Continually strive for improved integration between technologies to enhance capabilities from existing investments.

Build. Run. Retire. Repeat. 

Assit in design, develop, and deploy of Agentic AI SOC platform capabilities.

Contribute to a world-class security program that supports Arctic Wolf’s tremendous growth.

Key Skills

Ability to work and collaborate well across multiple stakeholders.

Strong understanding of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures using the MITRE ATT&CK farmwork, other adversary attack methodologies and current and past attack trend.

Good understanding of software development or scripting, and API integration.

Good experience in deploying security technologies such as SIEM, SOAR, content filters, Threat Intelligence Platform, EDR, Threat Detection / MITRE ATT&CK mapping, etc.

Familiarity with, and understanding of the inner workings of, network protocols and operating systems to include Windows, Linux and Unix.

Good familiarity with cloud infrastructures, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) considered a strong plus. We’re a cloud-first company.

Knowledge of industry adopted frameworks and methodologies (MITRE ATT&CK, CIS, NIST, ISO 27002:2013, PCI-DSS, etc.)

Strong in-depth technical knowledge of security engineering, computer and network security, authentication, security protocols, and applied cryptography.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent experience.

5+ years of experience in security and infrastructure engineering including assessing and escalating to vendors for troubleshooting purposes.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong familiarity with cloud infrastructures and managing Security Information Event Management solutions with certification in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure Cloud considered a strong plus.

Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills 

Understanding all phases of incident response

Perform assessment of cybersecurity incidents to identify the root cause, respond, and recover the environment.

Environment and Physical Demands

Work is primarily sedentary in nature and can be executed sitting or standing positions in an office environment.

Requires ability to utilize technology related to using a keyboard, verbal communication, and work with device screens which require visual acuity.

If located in a company office, often requires the mobility to physically navigate the space.

In the event of business travel, mobility sufficient to utilize public and private transport and navigate to essential locations.

May include moving or lifting of 25 pounds or less (e.g. office chair, reams of paper).
