Position Purpose:
The Senior HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting the workforce, fostering strong relationships between management and employees, and ensuring compliance with labor agreements and organizational policies. The individual in this role will be assigned responsibility for employee/union relations, staffing, employee communication, performance management, HRIS administration, and other people initiatives.

 

Critical Success Criteria:

  • Coach leaders and support performance management activities and initiatives including conducting employee relations and policy violation investigations.
  • Work with union officials, management, and employees to resolve problems and concerns related to the collective bargaining agreement. Support labor contract interpretation and negotiations activities.
  • Participate in a variety of talent acquisition activities including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding candidates for hire
  • Involved in initiatives and activities for the entire facility that involve all aspects of human resources including benefits, compensation, training, leave administration, HRIS and employee engagement that drive organizational capabilities, plant operational performance, better safety outcomes, improved levels of employee engagement and increased employee retention.

 

 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Employee Relations: Act as a primary point of contact for employees and union representatives to address workplace concerns and resolve grievances in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Labor Relations: Support the interpretation and administration of union contracts, assist in collective bargaining negotiations, and ensure compliance with labor laws and agreements.
  • Recruitment and Onboarding: Support the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, interviews, and new hire orientation, ensuring alignment with company policies and workforce needs.
  • Performance Management: Partner with managers to facilitate performance reviews, investigations/disciplinary actions, and employee development plans.
  • Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws, ensuring compliance in all HR practices and policies, particularly within a unionized environment.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs, organize employee development initiatives, and facilitate workshops or programs that align with organizational goals.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Assist with payroll and benefits administration, address employee inquiries, and ensure timely resolution of compensation-related matters.
  • HR Reporting: Generate and analyze HR metrics and reports, providing data-driven recommendations to management.
  • Health and Safety: Collaborate with the safety team to support workers’ compensation claims and return to work issues, including reasonable accommodation assessments; promote a safe and compliant work environment, ensuring adherence to workplace safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business, or related field from accredited College or University, or equivalent experience
  • Previous work experience in human resources role
  • Previous work experience in or supporting manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
  • Previous work experience in employee relations
  • General understanding of labor laws
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with managers, employees, and union representatives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities
  • Technical proficiency with HRIS systems (preferably UKG) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Conduct work activities on site at the Gopher Resource Tampa facility. Limited opportunities for remote work or work-from-home may be considered.

 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field from accredited College or University preferred, but not required
  • 5+ years of previous work experience in human resources field preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience with union contracts and collective bargaining processes preferred, but not required
  • Previous work experience in a unionized manufacturing environment preferred, but not required
  • PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification preferred, but not required


      Compensation & Benefits:
      Salary Range: $88,054 - $140,655. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive plan which is determined by the achievement of strategic objectives. The market rate for the role is typically at the midpoint of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as candidate qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
