About the role

We're looking for a strategic HR Business Partner with deep expertise in Compensation and Total Rewards to help shape how we attract, reward, and retain exceptional talent. This is a highly cross-functional role that blends strategic HR partnership with compensation strategy, workforce planning, and people analytics.

As our first dedicated Total Rewards partner, you'll have the opportunity to build foundational programs that will influence how we scale as an organization. You'll work closely with People, Finance, and executive leadership to design thoughtful compensation strategies, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and ensure our people's practices continue to evolve alongside the business.

If you're energized by building from the ground up, solving complex people's challenges, and partnering directly with leaders to drive business outcomes, we'd love to meet you.

Our ideal candidate is an HRBP who is passionate about the total rewards and compensation space, and understands how important it is to drive the right incentive structures for a certain stage of a business.  They enjoy learning and thrive in a small-team, in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift daily.  They are passionate about working the magic behind the scenes, but also keen to work directly with our employees to grow trusted relationships and gain a deep understanding of the business.  They are resourceful and scrappy to find the right programs for our employees and to navigate the complexity of our Alphabet systems, while navigating the ever-changing tech landscape around us.   You seek to understand the business, but also care a lot about building equitable structures where employees feel recognized for their contributions.

Focus Areas:

Compensation Architecture & Total Rewards

  • Designing and evolving our compensation philosophy, salary structures, job architecture, and leveling frameworks within the Alphabet context
  • Lead and operationalize compensation cycles, including annual compensation planning, market benchmarking, and pay equity initiatives that ensure our programs remain competitive and equitable, drawing insights from both the tech and energy sectors
  • Partner with the Staffing teams and hiring managers to create competitive offers for hires.
  • Design and evolve competitive incentive programs, especially for AI & ML talent
  • Design and build compensation metrics, reports, and tools to inform compensation decisions and forecast, report, and/or analyze compensation outcomes
  • Partner closely with Finance on headcount planning, workforce cost modeling, and budget alignment
  • Evolve total rewards philosophy in partnership with HR leadership to support attraction and retention of top talent

Strategic HR Partnership

  • Build reporting and people analytics that provide leaders with meaningful insights into compensation, attrition, organizational health, and workforce trends.
  • Advise leaders on organizational effectiveness, change management, talent strategy, and employee experience.
  • Partner with managers to  build a high-performing, inclusive culture where employees understand how they're recognized, rewarded, and developed.
  • Champion company culture and values, helping balance startup agility with long-term organizational health

What we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience as an HR Business Partner supporting business leaders.
  • Deep expertise in Compensation, Total Rewards, or Compensation Consulting, including compensation strategy and design
  • Experience leading annual compensation planning, salary benchmarking, job leveling, and pay equity initiatives.
  • Strong partnership experience with Finance on workforce planning, headcount modeling, organizational design, and budget planning.
  • Strong analytical capability with demonstrated experience in people analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting recommendations to senior leaders and executives.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and the ability to navigate sensitive people matters with professionalism and empathy.

It would be great if you had these:

  • Experience partnering with a business function to strategize a retention strategy and demonstration of impact through implementation
  • Experience building or scaling Total Rewards programs in a high-growth technology company.
  • Experience with revamping a business function’s job architecture
  • Experience working within Alphabet, Google, or another large technology organization.
  • Experience using people analytics and visualization tools to support executive decision-making especially around retention programs
  • A deep, mission-driven passion making impact and building world-changing teams from the ground up.

Our values

  • Take charge: We take initiative and own outcomes that move the mission forward.
  • Transform with purpose: We build solutions that solve real problems and create meaningful impact.
  • Be a Tapestry, not a thread: We collaborate across diverse skills and perspectives to achieve more than we can individually.
  • Always fine-tune: We stay curious, seek feedback, and refine our understanding as we learn.
  • Stay grounded: We listen openly, value different perspectives, and stay focused on what matters most.

What we offer

A culture that supports growth, ownership, and meaningful impact, along with:

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and flexible hybrid work model
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Professional development
  • The ability to work on important real-world problems within an Alphabet-backed environment

Skills Required

  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience as an HR Business Partner supporting business leaders
  • Deep expertise in Compensation, Total Rewards, or Compensation Consulting, including compensation strategy and design
  • Experience leading annual compensation planning, salary benchmarking, job leveling, and pay equity initiatives
  • Strong partnership experience with Finance on workforce planning, headcount modeling, organizational design, and budget planning
  • Strong analytical capability with demonstrated experience in people analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting recommendations to senior leaders and executives
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to navigate sensitive people matters with professionalism and empathy
  • Experience partnering with a business function to strategize a retention strategy and demonstrating impact through implementation
  • Experience building or scaling Total Rewards programs in a high-growth technology company
  • Experience revamping a business function's job architecture
  • Experience working within Alphabet, Google, or another large technology organization
  • Experience using people analytics and visualization tools to support executive decision-making
  • Mission-driven passion for building teams from the ground up
