Marsh Government Consulting is seeking a seasoned leader in Medicaid to join our Government Medicaid practice. This Client Manager role combines deep Medicaid expertise with proven consulting leadership, P&L and sales accountability, and the ability to lead complex engagements. You will advise state clients, grow and defend accounts, and drive strategic market growth while managing teams and financial performance.
Locations: Remote or based in Atlanta, Minneapolis, Phoenix, or Washington, D.C. (role is typically hybrid; office presence expectations vary by office and business needs and may include at least three days/week).
What you can expect
Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary client engagements across Medicaid and CHIP programs.
Own and grow a portfolio: maintain and expand a book of business with high-yield and/or large accounts, meet personal sales targets, and support client sales efforts.
Manage a client including staffing, budgeting, and long-term strategy to deliver profitable client relationships.
Work with executive Medicaid leaders in government; contribute to thought leadership and represent the firm at industry events.
Key responsibilities
Apply expertise in Medicaid to shape state program strategies and advance client goals.
Own P&L accountability for a client or portfolio of clients, including budgeting, financial performance, and staffing decisions.
Lead large, complex client engagements: design strategic solutions, direct project teams, resolve delivery issues, and ensure high-quality outcomes.
Advise on client retention and expansion best practices; develop and execute Medicaid market/industry-specific expansion and marketing strategies.
Develop methodologies for client account and opportunity prioritization informed by market insights, competitor positioning, and internal strategy.
Approve delegation decisions and intervene on escalated or at-risk clients.
Deliver tailored solutions for clients and advise on solution design to meet client objectives.
Manage human capital strategy: develop, and manage talent; mentor consultants and build high-performing teams.
Build and maintain a professional network through industry participation.
Qualifications
BA/BS required.
Minimum 20+ years of relevant experience in Medicaid.
Proven leadership experience with P&L responsibility or demonstrated fiscal acumen in a consulting or government-facing environment.
Track record managing large, high-stress government clients (e.g., Governors’ offices, Medicaid directors) and leading complex projects.
Strong project management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Preferred / Distinguishing experience
Consulting experience, or similar State Medicaid agency or CMS experience.
Experience working with Medicaid actuaries and familiarity with the government health landscape.
Demonstrated ability to grow business via client relationships, cross-selling, and strategic initiatives.
Strong writing skills, learning agility, and a problem-solving mindset; comfortable navigating ambiguity.
Experience mentoring and developing consultants and a demonstrated market presence.
Travel and other expectations
Regular travel to client sites and industry events as needed.
Active participation in Medicaid market and firm initiatives to drive business growth and thought leadership.
