Primary Purpose of the Position
The Senior Greenhouse Gas Accountant will develop and own the process of collecting and validating energy data to calculate, analyze, and report Scope 1, 2, and 3
greenhouse gas emissions across Goodyear's operations and value chain. This person will maintain accurate, properly documented emission inventories aligned with
regulatory and voluntary frameworks, such as the Greenhouse Gas [GHG] Protocol and Science Based Targets Initiative [SBTi]. The ideal candidate will have a strong
understanding of data management and GHG accounting, the GHG Protocol and emisions factor databases and third-party assurance requirements. This person will play a
vital role in helping the organization draw insights from the data and modeling various scenarios to determine effective decarbonization strategies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Own the annual process to effectively gather comprehensive energy data and calculate Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions, applying any new and relavant GHG Protocol developments, such as forest, land, and agriculture [FLAG] emissions.
Own, develop, maintain, and enhance systems (e.g., surveys, spreadsheets, and carbon footprint software) to effectively gather the needed data and calculate emissions using appropriate emission factors and methodologies. Utilize these systems to model decarbonization strategies and various scenarios to draw insights and inform effective strategies for reaching Goodyear's science based targets.
Review and validate completeness and accuracy of emissions sources, data sources, and energy data. Identify data discrepancies and partner with subject matter experts to correct. Ensure proper documentation and approvals/sign-offs on data.
In collaboration with the ESG Data Governance Specialist and Finance team, work to: Ensure accurate reporting at a global, entity, country, or facility level, in accordance with the appropriate framework and boundary (e.g., GHG Protocol, Carbon Disclosure Project [CDP], Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive [CSRD], International Sustainability Standards Board [ISSB], SBTi). Respond quickly to internal and external audit findings to make improvements. Gain third-party assurance by ensuring policies, management assertions, calculations, and documentation are accurate and up-to-date.
Prepare annual, quarterly, and ad-hoc energy and emissions reports, requested by internal and external stakeholders. Ensure appropriate alignment with lifecycle assessments (LCAs) and product-level emissions analyses.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Business/Data Analytics, Environmental Science, Finance, Sustainability, or related field
Experience
· 5 or more years of experience in accounting with a strong interest in sustainability; experience in GHG accounting required
· Strong understanding of the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and carbon accounting tools (e.g., emissions factor databases)
· Experience with GHG accounting software and third-party assurance
Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities
· Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills
· Proven ability to build rapport with stakeholders, drive processes, manage timelines, work independently, and identify and raise issues and solutions
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel
· Proven ability to learn, teach, and apply new accounting/protocol standards
· Effectively communicates with and positively influences stakeholders to follow standards and timelines
· Knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain operations - desired
