Job DescriptionPosition Summary
The Senior Financial Accountant is a key member of Wise’s Pacific Finance team, reporting to the Head of Pacific Finance. The role is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring regulatory compliance, strengthening financial controls, and driving automation and process improvements across Australia and the Pacific region.
The Role:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis. Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting processes for Pacific entities. Prepare monthly financial performance analysis including Balance sheet commentary, and quarterly board reporting packs. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Regulatory Reporting & Compliance. Manage daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal governance frameworks. Support implementation of new regulatory requirements and assess their financial reporting impact.
- Process Automation & Data Excellence. Identify, design, and implement opportunities to automate manual finance processes and reporting activities. Use SQL and data tools to improve reporting efficiency and data quality. Develop scalable reporting solutions that reduce manual effort. Champion continuous improvement initiatives across Pacific finance.
- Controls, Governance & Audit. Strengthen and maintain financial controls and governance processes. Support internal and external audits. Document and improve key financial processes. Monitor compliance with internal policies and regulatory expectations. Drive ongoing enhancements to the control environment.
Who You Are
Wise is seeking a proactive finance professional who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and using technology to create more efficient and scalable finance operations. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable performing detailed reconciliations, analysing large datasets, and implementing automation solutions.
Requirements:
- Professional Experience. 4-6+ years post qualified experience in accounting, financial control and reporting. Experience in Fintech or Financial Services would be desirable.
- Qualifications. CA, CPA or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce
- Technical skills. Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. SQL / Python automation skills would be a bonus.
- Automation Mindset. Passionate about eliminating manual work and improving efficiency through automation. Curious about systems, data flows, and opportunities to streamline finance operations.
- Analytical Thinking. Able to translate complex financial and operational data into actionable insights. Comfortable working with large datasets and investigating data quality issues.
- Stakeholder Management. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Adaptability & Ownership. Thrives in a fast-paced and evolving environment. Takes ownership of outcomes and proactively drives improvements. Comfortable managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and control.

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.
We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
