Position Summary:
The Senior Finance Specialist is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounts payable function while supporting broader financial operations, budgeting, compliance, and reporting activities. This position ensures the timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments, maintains strong internal controls, supports month-end close activities, and serves as the primary resource for accounts payable operations in accordance with the organization’s Purchasing Policy, Finance policies, and grant requirements.
The Senior Finance Specialist exercises independent judgment in resolving complex payment issues, improving financial processes, maintaining vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). In addition, this position cross-trains in payroll administration, serves as the primary backup to the Payroll Specialist and Controller, and provides financial support to Grant Accountants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure effective financial management and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and forecasts to provide accurate and timely insights into the organization's financial status.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies that support the organization's objectives and growth plans.
- Monitor and manage cash flow, budgeting, and financial planning processes to optimize resource allocation and financial performance.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate financial risks and ensure the organization's financial stability.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of tax filings and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Liaise with external auditors and stakeholders to facilitate audits and ensure transparency in financial reporting.
- Stay updated with industry trends and changes in financial regulations to ensure the organization remains compliant and competitive.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Experience with Accounts Payable required.
- Experience supporting payroll processing preferred.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting and grant-funded organizations prefrerred.
