Overview

We're looking for a Senior Finance Manager to run our finance function for 12 months, while our current lead is on parental leave.

You'll be someone who finds real satisfaction in well-run books, and who likes the idea of that craft sitting behind work that's genuinely for people and planet. You can hold the detail of daily reconciliations and the rhythm of monthly reporting at the same time, and you're the kind of person a team trusts with the numbers. You'll be a senior, steady presence in our Collingwood studio, working closely with our CEO and supporting our Finance Officer.

What's the role?

You'll own the day-to-day financial operations across our trading entities. You'll keep the engine running well, keep us compliant, and give our leadership team clear, timely numbers to make decisions with.

You'll work alongside a team of passionate, inclusive and curious people on work that matters. You’ll be supported by our book-keeping partners who assist with daily finance tasks. We offer generous benefits including flexibility, events, wellness support, and great leave entitlements.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Act as an advisor to the Executive team on the commercial health of the business
  • Collaborate with our external Accountants on responsible fiscal management
  • Oversee our external book-keeping support team
  • Manage our cashflow forecast, proactively identify risks or opportunities to improve
  • Oversee the renewal of existing contracts and effectively negotiate new agreements
  • Run daily bank, credit card and transaction reconciliations across our entities, and keeping our cash flow forecast current
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including payment runs, supplier reconciliations and the trickier invoicing
  • Process  payroll, including leave, PAYG, super and payroll tax
  • Prepare monthly management reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and the commercial summary for the Board
  • Keep us compliant across BAS, FBT, workers comp, ASIC, ATO lodgements, insurance and software renewals, and statutory obligations, with support from our external accountants
  • Partner with our Delivery team on accurate, timely client reporting
  • Work within our Studio support services team
  • Answer the finance questions that come from across the studio, from project profitability to a one-off payroll query

RequirementsWho we're looking for

You have solid experience running a finance function or a senior finance role, ideally in a services, agency or project-based business. You're comfortable owning the full cycle, from daily transactions through to monthly reporting and statutory compliance. You know Australian payroll, GST, BAS and super obligations well, and you've handled multiple entities before. You read financial data easily, and you can spot the thing that doesn't look right.

You're across the tools. Experience with Xero is important, and familiarity with a time and billing system like StreamTime, plus Fathom, is a bonus.

How you work (this matters a lot to us)

You're organised, accurate and calm under a busy month-end. You take ownership of what's yours, and you ask for help early rather than letting things drift. You can explain a number to someone who doesn't live in spreadsheets, and you do it with patience and good humour. You align with Today's values of kindness and care, and you bring lightness to the work.
