Microchip Technology Inc. has a Senior FAE- Embedded Solutions Engineer opening based in Itasca, IL.  As an Senior Embedded Solutions Engineer with a focus on Embedded Analog, Power, Signal Conditioning and related technologies you will engage with clients to create technical solutions while identifying and building new business using your engineering expertise. You will be expected to reframe their thinking and build consensus for Microchip’s solutions, co-creating value by delivering the freedom to innovate.

Overview

Primarily this customer engagement role is to drive design wins to revenue at assigned accounts by providing in-depth engineering support including creation of demos and proofs of concept as well as bring up and debugging of client systems.  Some specific embedded expertise may be required. Visiting, training, and advising customers is also part of the job.

Job Responsibilities

  • Proficient in Analog Sensor and Signal Chain as well as Analog Power Management solutions, able to both advise on and implement innovative ideas and solutions to Microchip’s clients.

  • Continuously and proactively develop additional technical skills in both Analog Sensor and Signal Chain and Analog Power Management solutions.

  • Learn and utilize Microchip’s Client Engagement Process to drive design wins to revenue at select target clients

  • Support the company technical and business relationship with the assigned clients.

  • Be responsible for establishing new semiconductor business relationships, identifying win/win reference design opportunities, leading the design & development of reference designs, resulting in additional new analog product revenue growth.

  • Utilize engineering design skills, techniques and knowledge to decrease client development time, reduce overall system cost and improve the performance of the end product.

  • Identify the key client stakeholders and coach those stakeholders to build consensus for Microchip’s solutions within their organization

  • Continuously and proactively develop technical skills in connected embedded systems including tools, libraries, frameworks, and other technologies

  • Use insight and influencing skills to offer clients unique perspectives on technology that link to Microchip solutions

  • Contribute and participate within a global team environment to successfully develop and implement strategies for assigned clients across all global locations

  • Communicate effectively with Microchip product divisions providing quantifiable feedback and return on investment (ROI) for their client engagements

  • Engage in client architectural discussions and reviews driving best in class support with Microchip’s embedded semiconductor and software solutions

  • Conduct architectural and board-level schematic reviews, design-in and product training for customers

  • Provide essential communications across functional teams to improve product features and processes, support and attention to client needs

  • Utilize engineering design skills, techniques, and knowledge to decrease client development time and improve manufacturability

  • Must have the ability to create content and deliver technical overviews, seminars, and workshops for clients, fellow ESEs and/or Sales

  • Ability to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously

Requirements/Qualifications:

Competencies

  • Power Management Electronic Design – Creative design capability, architectural organization to meet system specifications, schematic/simulation/layout via CAD tools, Test and debug skills.

  • Skilled, familiar and practiced in techniques used in system AC/DC and DC/DC power supply architectures, including system fault protection, safety and compliance requirements.

  • Expert Knowledge of designing and recommending Linear and Switching Power Topologies: LDOs, Boost, Buck, Buck-Boost, SEPIC and isolated switching converters, including thermal management and characterization.

  • Understand, utilize and provide design support for various linear/discrete circuit topologies, High Voltage Mux/Drivers and analog filter circuits.

  • Proficient in mixed signal conditioning utilizing ADC/DAC, temp. sensor, timing/clock generation, AC/DC power monitoring and metering. 

  • Familiar and capable of analyzing and optimizing all closed loop feedback techniques deployed in power conversion circuits. Able to use or customize simulation tools to enhance loop analysis efforts.  

  • Hands on Schematic entry and PCB design experience to support and recommend client’s power circuit schematic review and layout efforts.

  • Basic interface protocols - I2C, SPI, UART to support PMBUS and Microchip’s DEPA communication protocols.

  • Hands-on experience with power and general test equipment to provide support during prototype and production developments at client’s test laboratories.

  • Ability to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously.

  • Preferable two years of experience in semiconductor application/sales.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (e.g. BSEE, BSCE) with a strong academic track record

  • Relevant work experience (+5 years)
