Tasks and Qualifications:What You Will Do in This Role:
As the R&D Engineering Manager/Leader for Monterrey, you will lead and develop a team of mechanical/mechatronics engineers responsible for the design, development, and sustainment of innovative material handling products. You will partner closely with procurement, manufacturing, product management, installation, customer service and North American engineering teams to deliver and sustain high-quality solutions that meet customer and business objectives.
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team focused on innovation, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Build engineering capabilities and technical expertise to support the growth of the Monterrey engineering organization.
- Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent through mentoring, performance management, and succession planning.
- Foster strong collaboration across global engineering teams and functional partners especially with the Dematic NA PD IAS Sr. Director and leadership team.
- Maintain a strong partnership
- Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, safety, and engineering excellence.
- Establish effective customer and stakeholder feedback mechanisms to continuously improve team performance and outcomes.
Product Development & Delivery
- Ensure engineering projects and product improvement or development activities are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to quality expectations.
- Provide regular project status reporting, accurate forecasting, and resource planning.
- Drive capacity planning, workload management, and effective utilization of internal and external engineering resources.
- Identify capability gaps and implement development plans to strengthen team skills and performance.
- Lead issue resolution and cross-functional problem-solving efforts.
- Champion Lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance of products with safety and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Leadership
- Execute strategic and tactical initiatives that support business growth and engineering excellence. Own accountability for the MTY team success.
- Partner with North American Product Development IAS Engineering leadership to align priorities, processes, and best practices.
- Build strong working relationships with the co-located manufacturing facility to address product design related quality, safety and manufacturability issues to support business needs.
- Advocate for the Monterrey engineering organization and maximize the effectiveness of local engineering and testing capabilities.
- Support the successful achievement of business goals through strong leadership, collaboration, and execution.
- Take initiative to strengthen team morale and cooperative working relationships with the Grand Rapids PD IAS team along with other functional partners in MTY.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage engineering resources in alignment with business objectives and budget commitments.
- Balance workload, project budgets, and risk mitigation strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
- Ensure team decisions support operational and financial goals, including resource utilization, training investments, and productivity initiatives.
What We Are Looking For:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of engineering experience, including leadership and people management responsibilities.
- Proven experience leading product development and engineering teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing engineering operations across multiple locations is preferred.
- Material handling, industrial equipment, automation, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working closely with manufacturing organizations and processes.
- Exposure to controls or automation technologies is a plus.
