The TeamThe Payments team operates the financial backbone of Imprint, owning the services that process and reconcile customer and partner payments across instruments like ACH, debit, bill pay, and checks. The team’s mandate spans money‑movement reliability, observability, and compliance, and it partners closely with Risk, Data, Finance, Compliance, and Product to deliver accurate, auditable outcomes. Current focus areas include improving the payment customer product experience, deepening integrations with our payment partners, and executing a roadmap of architectural improvements to meet the dramatically increasing needs of our company's scale.
The RoleWe’re seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead Payments through its next phase of scale and reliability. You will set strategy, grow and mentor a high‑performing team, and drive delivery of resilient payment flows and platform capabilities. You’ll partner with product and cross‑functional leaders to raise our bar on availability, correctness, and speed of change while meeting regulatory and audit requirements.
LocationHybrid. This role is based in our New York or San Francisco office, with 2–3 in-office days per week as required by your manager. Preference for NY or SF office hubs for closer collaboration with engineering leadership.
What You’ll DoSet and execute the technical and organizational strategy for Payments Engineering, balancing speed, scale, cost, and compliance.
Collaborate across cross-functional partners (Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Data) to define goals, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
Own delivery and operations of mission‑critical money‑movement services and jobs, with strong SLOs, runbooks, and on‑call quality.
Evolve monitoring and alerting around business outcomes and failure modes across payment domains and providers.
Lead architecture to simplify flows, improve auditability, and de‑risk migrations as we refactor legacy paths.
Lead and develop a diverse, talented team of engineers across a range of seniority levels.
10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing backend/platform teams operating 24x7 services.
Experience building and running payment or financial systems at scale, such as ACH, debit, bill pay, RPPS, or check processing, with strong reconciliation and audit practices.
Strong systems architecture skills across distributed systems, data integrity, idempotency, and exactly‑once semantics.
Proven track record improving reliability, observability, and on‑call effectiveness in high‑stakes domains.
Clear, direct communication; ability to align cross‑functional stakeholders and lead through ambiguity.
Nice to have: experience with provider integrations and payment rails, rules/controls frameworks, regulated environments, or large‑scale platform refactors.
